I was looking at the instruction book to the Tecmo game Rygar, and I totally forgot about this from years ago..

Supposedly if you collected 5 proofs of purchases by buying Tecmo NES games, you would get some sort or prize...

Anyone actually do this? Or know what you got?

Great question...I remember that!

Did anybody ever actually own 5 Tecmo games as a kid?

The few that did likely didn't send in their proofs of purchase.

I'd bet Tecmo sent out a max of 2 of that prize!

I'd love to know what it was though...

I've always wondered what you got when you sent in 5 Tecmo manuals as well. That would be sweet as hell if they still honored it. LOL

I can tell you that it said you needed 5 games, but at the time, there were still only 4 available... Rygar, Mighty Bomb Jack, Star Force, and Solomon's Key, it said "More coming soon", so Tecmo Bowl and Ninja Gaiden weren't out yet

Well... I believe that all Tecmo games released for the NES had one of these on the back cover. My copy of Tecmo Bowl and my copy of Ninja Gaiden 2 both have them. I should really call the number and ask them if they still offer it, or what it was.

As a Tecmo collector I've always wondered what it was. I do searches on Ebay for Tecmo stuff all the time and have never seen anything that was described as any sort of free gift from Tecmo. I gave the number a call and big surprise it doesn't work anymore. I guess we could always try to email Tecmo. It still seems like someone on these boards should know.

the secret is revealed and I think you'll see why nobody did it. I found this in a complet copy of Ninja Gaiden 8-) that I just got. I was a little disapointed to see what Tecmo's free prize was. Here it is on a little two sided mailer.

i might actually care if it was a Tecmo watch or ninja gainden watch but its just a stupid regular watch. well actually maybe that was cutting edge back then. I remember really wanting some stupid Huffy bike you could win through a box of cereal so who know maybe that was a great prized back then but certainly not very collectible.

250$ worth of software for a 10-20$ watch. You know what? That watch wasn't even an exclusive, I had that very same design as a kid. Note the fine print in the bottom that says this though:

You might receive a superb watch like pictured in the photo.

So the actual item sent out probably differed. I bet it was whatever watch a Tecmo employee could scrounge whenever 5 UPCs were sent back.

Yeah, your standard 1980s sports watch there, complete with nasty, nasty rubber wristband.

I suppose somebody could laser etch a little Ryu Hayabusa into it? :P
