So, the year is almost over, and we can look back and reflect.
What important happened in the gaming world and the game industry this year? What will people like Stephen Kent and Leonard Herman have to say about 2004 when they update their great books?
Off the top of my head, here's the big things I'll remember:
-- The launch of a new system, the Nintendo DS (two, if you want to count the PSP but that was Japan only)
-- The 'death' of two others, the Neo-Geo and PlayStation
-- The PC gaming industry recieved some major games to help breathe life into a slacking market, such as Half Life 2, Doom 3, and Pirates.
-- Halo 2 and GTA: SA were the most hyped games of the year, and mostly lived up to it.
-- The merging of Square and Enix (that DID officialy happen this year, was'nt it?)
-- Despite perdictions, more MMORPG games get launched, such as Worlds of Warcraft, City of Heros, and EverQuest 2.
-- The redesigned PS2 and NGage.
-- The XBox secures a second place in the console war, while the GameCube, for several reasons, drops to third.
-- The flop of the long awaited Hard Drive for the PS2.
-- Increased online play and hacking for the PS2 and XBox
-- The retro market continues to grow, with more all in one sticks, more collections like Atari Anthology, and the Flashback.
-- Last but not least, the five year deal between EA and the NFL.
