Not sure on how well this thread is welcomed here, I'm not really trying to advertise per se, But I do hope to attract a couple players at least. Mods, if there's an issue with the fuzzy legality of this just ask and I'll blank the post, or just take care of it yourself.


ANYWAY, I once ran a private ragnarok online server. Now, my girlfriend decided she wants to play some more and now she's running it. So, yeah, if anyone wants to play some free ragnarok, grab a kRO and sakray client and patch them up. I'll let the mods decide if this is cool before I post the files you need to connect to the server.

edit2: SERVER IS DOWN. No one was using for a few weeks, so we've taken it down again. Been down for awhile now actually, but I figured I'd better update this anyway.

A gift I got for going to an Anime Convention yesterday, was a free 15 day trial disc for Ragnarok. I tried to play it, but it says I need an add-on patch or a new client. I went to the site, and couldn't find the add on, but found where to download the clent, but it would have taken 15 hours to download.

Please help, I'm really interested in playing this game.

Did you install from the disc yet? I was unaware of there even being a disc for the game but I'd guess that it's the same client you'd be able to download. Try installing, then look for the ragnarok.exe in the folder. Run that, it should automagically start patching for you (if it can connect, if it's kRO and you're not in korea they're starting to block IPs). I'd be interested to know more about the disc you got...is it a burn or something? if it's a legit iRO promotion, take pics!

So then,,everyone have their kROs and sakrays patched and ready? Couple things...I know this looks huge and complicated but I overexplained things for clarity.

There may be an issue with brand new kRo clients and the launcher, I haven't totally confirmed this but one of my players was having crashes / refusal to load after he got a pretty recent kRO release. If you can, try to get one at least a bit older than whatever is the most current right now, then patch it. Sorry for this being fairly vaugue, I'll update with more info as I get it.

ANYWAY, for those who are ready to rock, and just need to be able to connect, here's the installer:

Basically just get your kRo/sak setup, then run the installer. Install into the same directory (normally gravity/ro/ or such), and you should be good to go. The installer gives you everything you should need to play on our server, the chaos emerald items I made, the loading screens, the swear-filter fix, and connecting stuff. To connect and play, run the exe that the installer adds to your /ro/ directory (c906aSakexe.exe). It should connect to the server and ask for an account, here's how to make yours:

Type in your desired username, with either a _M or _F on the end for which gender you want your characters to be. Then type your desired pass. Once you've done this once, your account is made and you no longer need to type the _M or _F. I'm alright with people making a couple accounts if they really want both genders, but don't make 50. You're allowed quite a few characters per account anyway.

Once that's done, you'll be able to make a character, and play. There's usually either nobody, or three, four people on. If you need help, my characters are Fraze, Cryomancer, and Sherman, PM me ingame and I'll do what i can for you. If you're having trouble that prevents you from contacting me ingame, ie crashes, you can AIM me at Mancer8, and I'll try and help you the best I can.

Anyway, tell your friends, enjoy the game. If there's questions at all, post em here and I'll get you an answer. If you find a specific problem with the server, let me know and I'll try and get it fixed. Please remember this is a hobbyist-upkept server, heh.

What are the rates? I'm great at kRO, on a 1/1/1 I got to level 99 in a week... Anyway, enough bragging, if the rates are nice and low, I'm certianly in.

Not if you use a web browser like Mozilla Firefox. along with the BugMeNot extension.

If you downloaded the BugMeNot extension for the web browser,when you come to a site like that, which demands you log in to utilize, you just right click in the login box, and select BugMeNot. It goes to it's online database and fills in the form for you.

I would tell you the name and password, but I can't see it. The name is "fish" but the passcode is "*******"

Be careful with the warp NPC, I just used it to warp from Izlude to Payon, and I seem to be stuck in a wall. Anyone have any idea how to get out of this, or should I just start a new character?

edit: yeah, it seems that warping to Payon gets you stuck on the cliff-face on the south-east of town. Anyone have a teleport spell or something that could get someone out of it?

Atariguy, I think the warp NPC we're using was made before payon changed around a lot, that might be part of it. If you get stuck again, try IMing Mancer8 or CherryTonicCT or PMing Obliviana or Fraze ingame, and we'll get you out. I'll have it checked into though.

We used to run a free Everquest server, with a ton of original content and rules. (It's down now, but link is in sig for those who care) Never played RO, but free servers are always interesting.
