Best NES Beat'm up? *Take your pick*

Well the NES had some awesome beat'm up games, but which is your favourite?

Personally Double Dragons been my favourite, but I played and beat Might Final Fight today and that game is very cool. I want to give River City Ransom a proper playing, so I might not vote quite just yet.

PS: The reason why I didnt include the original TMNT is because its more of an adventure game than a beat 'm up, unlike the other ones in the series.

RCR all the way.... i've spent a shit ton of time playing double dragon series and the TMNT series, but always seemed to have the most fun with River City Ransom. speaking of which, i have RCR Ex, but i need to get my hands on the NES cart...

A few good ones in there, I did like TMNT 2 a LOT, and the first Double Dragon too... but I can't go down this list and NOT choose River City Ransom, clearly the best game overall. The fighting aspect that gets dull in most games works really well here as you purchase items between stages, and the two-player game is still a blast.

I'm gonna say Renegade, I mean I know it's not the game I'm thinking of but there was an arcade port that I played at my local Circle K that was to me at the time the coolest game I had ever saw, Thing is I'm not sure what it was called, Punch and Kick maybe? i know that was pretty much the premise.

I didn't think that RCR would run away with this so damn easily. I voted for TMNT 2. That game was the shit in the arcades, and I remember going crazy when my friend got it for his NES. Great memories :)

great topic, but i don't think kung fu should be included as an option. Kung Fu's more like a side-scrolling action game than a beat-em up. Beat-em ups differ from action games in the sense that they allow you to walk into and out of the background.

Mighty Final Fight simply because of the password system in RCR. If it had a battery, there would be a clear winner.

Also, I'm surprised to see TMNT II get votes. Have you played this game lately? The hit detection is beyond awful. It's almost unplayable now.

Kung Fu was always my favorite just because of it's simplicity...but if I could have tie two in my mind, it would have been Kung Fu and River City Ransom. I spent many hours punching and kicking my way thru evil "bad dudes" to get to the hot girl with the trapped-in-the-80's getup at the end. :rockets:

Double Dragon II. Nothing like kicking baddies out of a helicopter. I'm starting to really like DD III, though. The toggling of characters gives it a TMNT feel. Only wish you had more than one continue.

Hmm well I am trying to like River City Ransom but I find the controlling pretty bad :( It's nowhere near as smooth as say Mighty Final Fight.

Maybe I need more time, or maybe It's just not for me. Anyway I voted for Double Dragon, wish it had 2 player though.

I'm putting my bid in for Double Dragon 2. It was THE game that sucked me into the fabulous genre of beat-em-ups, and I still find it awesome to play this day, though, Mighty Final Fight and River City Ransom deserve honorable mention.
