Hi. I need some advice on what Playstation 2 games are good ones for a 5 year old boy. I have not checked into the games for the PS 2, so I have no idea what some good children games are. I just need a list of about 6 game. Thanks for any help,
Tony

Hmm....for a five-year old? I'm having trouble coming up with games that wouldn't be too complicated. Is he pretty intelligent for his age? These might work:

- The Adventures of Cookie and Cream
- Klonoa 2
- Jak and Daxter (the first one only)
- Ape Escape 2
- EyeToy
- Spongebob Squarepants

All of these games have suitable content and have gotten decent (or good) ratings. Whether the child will be able to understand them or not is another matter entirely, but they're all fairly simplistic. He'll probably just need a little nudge in the right direction.

Sonic Mega Collection would be a good one, IMHO.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. He is pretty smart, but I'll check out the games listed. Thanks again,
Tony

Katamari Damacy would be a perfect kid's game. Simple controls, no violence (unless you count being rolled up by a giant ball of junk, but it's clear that no one gets hurt in the process :) ), plus it's just plain fun.

Looks like The Adventures of Cookie and Cream or Katamari Damacy are the ones. I don't know about the Sonic Mega Collection, he may get it on his birthday :D .

Thanks again for the help,

Tony

As much as I love Katamari Damacy, that might be kind of hard for a 5-year-old. Especially considering the control scheme and the size of his hands.

I'll go to the local pawn shop and test it out. I'd hate to give it to him and it would be too hard for him to play. Thanks again,
Tony

EyeToy most defenitely. Any one of the games with the EyeToy packed in will work great. Me knowing five-year-olds, they need to get their energy out. On that same track, you might want to get any mix of Dance Dance Revolution.

We had some kids over age 6-9 for a family gathering. They Liked Katamari Damancy, but I'm not sure how good they were at it...

What other systems do you have? If you have any older systems (Atari 2600, Nintendo, Genesis), you could start him on some of their games. Because I wouldn't think a 5 year old would enjoy many of the newer games because they would be too hard for him. Get him playing some Pac-Man, or Super Mario Bros 1,3.

If you can find it, Sitting Ducks might be good.

PS2 really doesn't have the child in mind for gaming. Especially when Quality is an issue.

If you really want to get something a 5 year old will eat up, get an N64. Mario 64, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Yoshi's Story... All GREAT for kids, as well as Great games in general.

I say N64 because I know when I was 5 (10 even) I couldn't take care of a CD game. A 5 year old + a CD = Scratches, Dust, Broken / Lost Covers and Manuals...

If you think the kid can take care of a CD deffinately get a GameCube, otherwise N64 is my choice for smi-modern Quality Kid Friendly and super Durable gaming. GameCube if you think a CD belongs in the childs hands, otherwise a CD system is the last thing I'd look in to for a 5 year old PS2, GameCube, Xbox, or PC even... Just don't expect the same product when it comes to reselling at the garage sale.

---

If you don't take my word on GameCube, listen to all of its critics: "Too Kiddy"...

I think Katamari Damacy is hard as HELL. I'm a hardcore gamer (finished Viewtiful Joe on Ultra-V Rated) and even I have a LOT of trouble with Katamari. It's mostly the (in my opinion) horrible control scheme.

Check this site out. I don't know how many PS2 games they review or if the get specific with age groups.

http://www.gamerdad.com/

My 4 year old likes Katamari Damacy (which he refers to as the garbage game). It's funny and the graphics are really kid friendly. He doesn't really worry to much about the games objectives. He just likes rolling things up into balls.

There are so many PS1 games that are great for kids and pretty darn cheap. Especially at pawns. Yay backwards compatibility.

it might depend on how intelligent he is, but tak and the power of juju is a fun,
child-friendly platformer with some decent humor.
