Sega Genesis version 1 question

I recently bought one of the original versions with the headphone jack and a more rectangular shape. The system came with an rf adapter that projects a horrible fuzzy picture, so I was wondering, is there a difference in av cable versions between version 1 and the sleeker version 2?

Yes. They use different plugs.
The model 1 Genesis uses the same AV cable as the Sega Master System (composite video, mono sound). The Genesis 2 uses a composite/stereo cable with a much smaller connector.

However, since the headphones are in stereo, you can use that for your stereo sound. :)
