One would almost assume that the person auctioning it is in fact the winner of that very card - Although they make no effort to even mention that fact... I know if I had such a rare card like that, i'd be providing a little bit more information about myself and that very card, maybe with some links to confirm it...

I remember when a first edition Pokemon Charizard card would fetch a few hundred 5 or so years ago, I sold one on eBay last year, ended at 2.25, and then the buyer didn't even pay for it.

Wasting money on fad hobbies is something that I plan not to do.

I would normally laugh at something like this, and put a few laughing faces up, but this is so damn disturbing, I can't even do that. What in the world is the winner thinking? You could buy a freaking car for that much, or an amazing video game collection (for all us nerds out there). I don't remember a time I have seen money wasted this badly in my entire life (even the damn toast was a better purchase than this).

agreed. i thought those kizuna encounter auctions were bad enough, someone payed $23,000 for some paper/cardboard and a some hard plastic or whatever either is made out of. i can't see this do nothing but depreciate drastically over the next few years like cmosfm said in his example.

We could all donate the money we waste at Christmas time to charities instead, so we are all guilty in this respect - it's no use just pointing fingers like that. Maybe this guy donated a million to charity this Christmas - we don't know!

And you could be donating the money your spending on video games to charity! Whenever people say stuff like that it reminds me of this interview with a famous Harvard professor. He's a professor of ethics or something like that, and one of his big philosophies is that everyone should donate 20 percent of their incomes to charity. Well guess what, the interviewer asked him if he donated 20 percent of his income to charity, and he doesn't. The moral is its easy to point your finger but make sure that finger can't point at you.

The Constitution is printed on paper. There are pieces of paper out there that are worth more money than you or I will make in our entire lives. The materials that objects are made of bear no influence on their worth, to a collector. History and rarity are what shapes an items worth. The materials that band new game you bought for 50 dollars is made out of only cost the manufacturerer 2 dollars to put together. [/quote]

I love how 2 people just assumed that I do nothing with charities. I've donated a lot of time and money to various charities just in the last year alone. And I don't have $23,000 to my name, let alone to throw away on a yugioh card. Hell, I barely make $20,000 in a year.

The company I work for is very active in every community that we do business in and I take part in nearly every community event that either another employee sets up, or that I myself set up.

But the main reason I said what I said was because someone suggested instead of wasting the money on some stupid piece of paper that he could spend it on a car or a video game collection, which is nearly as wasteful and makes no more sense than a yugioh card.

Thanks for the finger-pointing though. I sure hope you aren't like that ethics professor and donate time or money as well since you pointed me out.

Yes, except that the Yugioh card will be worth around $100 a few years from now, wheras a game collection will only go up in value.

Perhaps it passed you by, but I made no suggestion that you did nothing with charities. I merely pointed out that we are all capable (even you!) of doing more than we do, or of spending less on ourselves and giving more to charity. And that for all we know the guy who bought this thing gives loads of money to charity.

That's all. I am not in the slightest interested in starting a competition to see who is the most charitable person here. Suffice it to say that I respect anyone who gives their time and / or money to charity (and not just by buying games from thrift stores!!)

None taken indeed.

And also, I do think $23k is ridiculous to spend on a card. But then, if the person did give loads of their money to charity, and this was their hobby then I guess I wouldn't hold it too much against them.

The card is in fact very real, Pojo.com says it's possible that the cards will end up more widely available at comic-cons and whatnot next year.

Still, :eek 2:

I'm not really into card collecting, but I know some of these TCG cards can fetch some pretty high prices. But the above auction is just rediculous.

So if Ted turner is the person who pays 23,000 for this card will you still have a problem with it? I mean he donated 1 billion dollars to the U.N. , No telling how much he has given away before that. I assume that the guy buying this card can afford to spend 23,000 on a piece of cardboard. Hell I assume he might wipe his ass with $100 bills. I can only dream what that is like. -_-

Some people just gotta have some things. But you got to wonder how much they will be worth in the future.

How much you you pay for a napkin? How about $1499.00 ?
Scribbled on and signed by Picasso though :)

but then again look at the amount of things Picasso signed according to an eBay completed listing :)

frankly, I'd rather pay the 14 grand for Kizuna EURO than 23 grand on a YGO card. At least I know that NG AES games will continue to value... woof.
