My brother found this tonight:
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=317285&pfp=srch1
Says it's in stock, at $75 over the normal price. How the hell can they get away with this?

Yeah, this is true...but.... I thought swindling people was reserved for corrupt ebay sellers, not a well known monster company such as Comp.

Yeah, I don't see Nintendo going after them or anything. Don't get me wrong, it's shady as shit and makes them look hellishly unprofessional, but it's their store. That's why the price is usually followed by 'MSRP' in official ads and marketing, meaning that it's the suggested price, and not firm, although competition usually makes stores behave and play by the rules (or otherwise wither away).

I would go as far to say that perhaps the reason Comp still has these units in stock (or presumably does) is because they held them off knowing that other stores would have sold out, and now they can make that profit. It's unprofessional to say the least, and makes me sick to top it off. I have a DS already, and paid $149.99 at CC, but it just gets me that they are basically ripping people off just because they can.

They can do this because the shipping price for overnight is a Penny....
Plus they probably wont put on state taxes, or anything like that. That's probably the final price you pay. The one display.
It's still high, dont get me wrong, but I'm sure they have some mastermind text somewhere that tells you why.
But the shipping thing they made obvious on that page. They arent going to sell it for 149.99 and then give you penny overnight shipping. No one makes the money off the hardware....except for CompUSA apparently./

It's CompUSA... look at the prices of all of their other games--they're all above retail!

I worked for CompUSA during the PS2 launch. We were selling them $100 over retail and the fools still bought them. Granted we only had 10 in stock, it was still a sad way to make a few bucks.

Plus if it's got the Nintendo logo on it it's worth more than the MSRP anyway. Ranked in order I would say I would pay $100 more than MSRP for the DX, $72.50 more than MSRP for the Super Nintendo, $63.12 more than MSRP for the NES, but I think the Virtual Boy was spot on, I wouldn't pay any more than launch price for it. I'd pay an extra $12.72 for the Gameboy but I thought the Gameboy Color was a rip so I'd want $2.50 back after buying it or you could apply it to the Gameboy Advance which is worth like $17 more than MSRP but the GBASP should be like $33 higher because of the better screen.

Well, it has been pulled since. Clicking on the link leads to a "no product found" type of page.

Yep :) My brother emailed Nintendo about this and this was the reply:
Hi Eric,
Although the suggested retail price for the Nintendo is still $149.99, some
retailers are trying to take advantage of the high demand and are charging
consumers more than we are asking. While this is legal, it's not something
that looks good on our behalf.
I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to find a Nintendo DS at the price that
we've recommended, as an additional 400,000 units have been shipped out
above what we originally anticipated (bringing the total to 1.4 million
units available for the U.S. by the end of the year). We suggest that you
keep checking with your local Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us,
Target, GameStop, and K-Mart stores for availability (and pricing). Hope
this helps!

Guess they got in touch with Comp and Comp pulled the page. Serves em right, the bastards!
