Does anyone know of a way to increase your flying skill before you take the Pilot's tests? I've been trying the stupid "circle the airstrip" test for TWO hours and haven't been able to get even halfway through it.
The controls seem way too sensitive for me and everytime I try I end up wiping out trying to turn into position for the markers. And it also makes me very mad that this is nessisary to advance the story game, so I can't even go off and do something else (I've done all the other missions up to this point except the Supply Lines one).
It also sucks very hard that there doesn't seem to be a way to "level up" your pilot skill before trying the tests, I can just imagine how hard the driving school would be if you had to do that at the very start of the game.
If anyone has any advice please give it to me because I want to get through this game because I really like it, but I'm so mad at it right now it may be taking a trip to EB if I can't get through it. Cause I'm not gonna spend like a whole week on ths one stupid test (and I know that even after I get through this one I have to do it again AND land, so that's gonna be fun).
EDIT* My biggest problem seems that I can't judge my position, and often times I either turn too much, or not enough and by the time I realize I'm off the mark I try and turn quickly to correct it and that causes me to push the stick the wrong way and I end up going up, down and every other wich friggin way and missing.

You could go to one of the majore airports and jack a plane. You should get skill points just for flying around. I'm not sure if that would actually help though. If it makes you feel better, the plane you're flying in now is probably the hardest one to fly in the game if you dont count the RC plane.

The Hewies in GTA: VC were so easy to pilot... even the RC that dropped the bombs. :) Ah, the beauty of simplicity. I have a feeling San An is gonna eat my arse for lunch if you gotta pilot anything harder than the RC plane. :eek 2:
Maybe there's some help to be had from the walkthroughs/help guides at www.gamefaqs.com Thats where I go when I'm seriously stuck on a game.

Gamefaqs was the first place I went, and all of the guides have the same advice about that test. "Just turn when you have to and it shouldn't be a problem, though it may be frustraiting for players with low flying experience." I'm still not sure how that's supposed to help.

WTF! does anyone know if there is an actual time limit on this test? Because I checked gamefaqs and all the guides said that there weren't. So I though okay, I'll just take my sweet time and keep circling untill I get them all. Well I finally get through the test and it tells me I failed and my total time was 162 seconds.
Is it possible to miss a marker and still go through the last one to end the test? Because maybe that's what happened, or will you automatically fail if you take a certain amount of time.
If I still can't get through this bitch there may be a NM copy of SA in the buying and selling forum very soon for cheap.

turning is a lot easier if you tilt the plane and turn the tail rudder(or whatever the term for it is), don't know if I'm repeating someone's statement but yeah it's how I got through it

Yes, the test is timed, and you have to hit all of the coronas. As youruglyclone said, learn to turn using the rudders (L2 and R2). Also, once you hit the first corona, lay off the gas. If you're hitting the gas while turning, the plane tends to lose control.
That mission took quite a few tries my first time through, but on my second go through (just cleared the story missions 2nd time through yesterday) I did it in 2 or 3 tries. It's one of the more annoying missions in the game (along with Supply Lines and City Lickers) but the rest of the flying school missions are pretty easy.
Anyone do the fire truck missions? I simply cannot get past level 8 on them. I've tried them in every area of SA and no luck. Part of the problem is that it's hard for me to see where the water is hitting even if you have the truck in first person mode.

I know what you mean I beat every mission and let me tell ya that god damn red baron one was the last one I beat.
Also screw the flying tests each airport except the last one you can park a car at a certain wall then jump a fence then steal jet later you will get your pilots license by force later to so don't sweat it
In san feirro or whatever its called you can only steal the copper there though so if you really want acess to planes go ahead and get that stupid license.

Thank you all very much for your advice. I finally got through the tests and obtained my licence so now I can move on in the story missions. Also a special thanks to Neil cause once I started laying off the gas I got it within 3 or 4 tries.
I am so happy I finally got through this, cause it was really ruining the game for me. Once again thanks all :D
Now to tackle Supply Lines
