Where? What brand (or what was it called?)? So it had 72 and 60 pin slots?

they are brand new, and supposedly licensed by 'intendo.
cant recall the name of it yet. but it looks like a sega gen model 3. a local video game shop around here is getting em in stock. i saw three or four laying around, and he's getting more in. don't know the pin set up, but it played every game i saw laying around. no blink or nothing. came right on. and they even had a real top loader in stock as well. but im thinking of gettin one of these other ones for myself, not that i don't enjoy the hell out of my toaster that i have had forever :D

If it looks like a genesis then it was a famiclone.

it doesn't look like a genesis really, it's just small like the gen3.
It has a convertor to allow playing of US games, but it's set up to naturally play JP famicom games.
If someone splurges on it and can tell us about the quality of it, I might pick one up myself.

They have another one that is genesis 3 sized and the controllers remind me of little xbox controllers.

we sell 'em at our store. 40 bucks with a 72-60pin adapter. they work pretty well. i was really amazed with the video quality... it kicks the toploaders ass and rivals the nes's av out.
GREATNESS

I just got one today. Yeah the video quality is great, sound not too bad either, Its very lightweight though. I feel as though everytime I push a cartridge in I might break it. I wonder how durable it is..

it's funny with the pin adaptor and a nes cart in it... the carts bigger than the system!

I bought one from Estarland. I think they were 49.00 plus shipping. It is very light and does feel fragile. But the sound and picture quality was quite good. For me it's just an inexpensive way to play famicom games without having to go thru a adapter. The controllers felt good, but the only downside is that the pinout for them is different than a regular NES. I didn't verify that, so don't hold me to it. Just seems I remember looking at it and saying to myself "That doesn't look like the controller port of a regular NES". I do know I shoved 8 or 9 famicom games in it and they all played without a glitch, so I was quite happy with it. Never did try the included adapter to play NES games, but that wasn't what I bought it for anyway.

The controller ports are different -- they're for famicom controllers. and though the ports are the same as a genesis controller, a genesis controller won't work... the d-pad works, but nothing else, plus, there's no select button.

Actually, The original Famicom's controllers did not detach. There was a 15 pin expansion port on the front for third part controllers and light guns and such.
The DB9 connector is a pirate standard for Famiclonnes...has been around for ages. Don't ask me how, but yes, pirates have standards too...weird but true.
I believe Lik Sang may still sell some of those 9 pin NES pads with turbo on them.
The reason I suspect pirates didn';t use the standard 7-pin NES style plugs is either 1) is a patented design by Nintendo (yeah, like that'd stop em) or 2) the 7 pin connectors ae harder to make than the readily available db 9 connectors.
