I live 2 miles from where it used to be, and yesterday, during my quest for slide carousels for MFA submissions (found 2), I noticed the white walls of it's somewhat recognizable building were gone, replaced by....
A furniture store.
(find it ironic, selling funiture for a living right now)
No more Lady Bug, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Robotron, Pac and Ms. Pac, Phoenix, or pinball. they were the only ones I could go to for a Battle Balls fix.
A Last bastion relic of the Old Days is gone. So that leaves about.. what, 5 arcades left in America? Something like that?
The previous generation had Drive-In Movies, something I saw the last parts of. Most of us here had the dark+Neon arcade.
I guess that fight with the Pasadena City Council (F---ing parking nazis!) to keep it ended. Badly. Warrior shot the food. I know full damn well we've gione over with our younger member the grace, immersion, and beauty of a dedicated cabinent. But there's just one less place for that now. A little more of my inner 12-year-old has left.
Go play a dedicated cabinent, any year, any game, tonight. Remember Pac-Mann's.
