Yeah, I heard about this over on FV earlier. Sucks balls, and I remember being bored retarded when the servers were down in EQ when I intended to be playing.
It really makes you wonder though, how much code and stuff do they really have to deal with in a game of this magnitude, so much so that just zoning can completely clear your quest diary? Do the people that fuck these things up to this degree get fired?
I luckily never experienced anything as massively wrong as this in the first EQ. If i ever lost an item it was because of my own stupidity, and I never got really screwed by the game itself.
Sucks man, it's horrible when they do a rollback, and hours of effort are wasted. Thank god my life is too busy to be playing this or WoW

That was at like 12:30 or so. It's now NINE O CLOCK AT NIGHT. I'm going through withdrawals.
I daresay, perhaps you should cut back.

Couldn't you, like, play Star Wars Galaxies or something in the interim? Just a thought.

Sorry, I was having a Wrath of Kahn flashback.
Bummer about EQ2, SoylentWolf ("SOYLENTWOLF IS MADE OF PEOPLE! ITS PEEEEOPLLLLEEE!", Sorry, typo caused another flashback.), I feel your pain. Back in the days of Ultima Online beta we used to call them rollback situations "timewarp crashes". Yessirree.

Well, I would be pissed off too if I was paying my hard earned money to play EQ2.

Nothing worse than buying a game that is undergoing constant maintanence for $15 a month. ...I wish my PC could play it :(
Wow I can't imagine having withdrawals from a game maybe you should cut back and try something else for a change, ride you bike, read a book or what not.

Play on my RO server.
/shameless plug
happens every day for an hour for the servers to reboot.
Is this a joke? Do they seriously take the servers down for an hour every day? People pay for this garbage?
I guess I shouldn't be suprised. EverQuest is still beta quality after 5 years.

You should (have) played UO (Ultima Online for those not into MMORPGs, its the mother of the MMORPG genre). They took down their servers for about 4-5 hours EVERY DAY (I donno if this still happens). I played UO and Everquest, and was a HUGE fan of both. I have since quit both, and I plan not to play another MMORPG. They are the BEST most ADDICTIVE games possible, which is why I quit em. I used to spend 8-12 hours a day on EQ, Thats just not healthy.I was in the best guild on my server, doing all the highest level content. The feeling of being the best on a server with thousands and thousands of people was so awesome. but anyways, my MMORPG days are behind me.

Wow, guess I shouldn't have posted on these boards, lol.
I DID play UO (and AC1, and EQ1, and AC2) and they never took the servers down for 4-5 hours per day. Ultima did the same thing EQ2 is doing now. They rebooted the servers once a day. It's called memory leaks, hard to find, but easy to fix witha quick reboot.
This is the nature of MMORPGS, yes, they go down, get updated, upgraded, and it's prefectly normal, and happens on ALL of them to some extent.
I just HAPPENED to comment that this is a VERY long and bad bug they must be working on. "EQ is still in beta 5 years later" is the supidest fuckin newbie comment on the planet, and anyone that plays MMORPGS just groaned out loud at that post since that's what people do for 6 MONTHS after a mmorpg release. "I can't believe I'm paying to beta test this stupid game"
And ya know what? They keep playing, and they proabbly play MUCH MORE than most people do. You wanna bitch about a SUPERB game, go do it somewhere else. You don't want to pay monthly fee's for server and dev teem upkeep to update the game every month, then GO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE.
And if you haven't ever even PLAYED A mmorpg, than you shouldn't be reading this, posting here, or bitching about how ANYONE else wants to spend their friggin money.

WTF is your problem. Who the hell was bitching about that game. Just calm the hell down and go back to your virtual life.

When I played Star Wars Galaxies, I may have had the servers go down once on the schedule...it's been so long though that that could've been that they NEVER went down.

Although I wouldn't have worded it quite that way, I agree with the sentiment. I don't see people complaining about the laggy, buggy, reboot-your-servers-every-day quality of World of Warcraft. I played the original EQ for years, and am entirely convinced of the mediocrity of the game. They'll never fix those bugs now that the game is live.

I HAD a decent reply but kept getting interrupted by my wife, and just deleted the whole thing. Basically, anyone whole actively plays MMORPGS (that's PLURAL) can tell who of these replies is an idiot and who isn't. I'm sorry, I've posted this on the wrong website.
I will now be editing my post to some warm chocolate pudding so I don't have to keep seeing the lame-ass "$15 is stupid to pay for a game" "I can't believe we're PAYING to play beta" "You need a life" "Our MMORPG is better than your MMORPG" etc...

From the rest of this post, it sounds like it was the best night the wife has had in quite some time!

It's a real pain in the rear when your gaming drug of choice (for me its WOW) goes down and you can't play. Now when they bring the servers back up and you were hit with a rollback then that for some is worse than losing a finger (depends on how much time you lost or that uber rare sword of Santulli that no longer appears in your pack).
What I like right now is that WOW has no zones (seemless gaming at its finest) and only does a reboot 1 time a week. Been playing for about a month now and the servers went down like 2 times other than the reboots/patches times. 1 of those times was right at release which happens to all new MMORPGS. I have no complaints so far about the stability of Blizzard's finest game to date World Of Warcraft.

I really bugs me when people make comments like this. It's pointless, ignorant, and happens to offend other members. You'll see what I mean when you post about a game you really enjoy and some jackass has a response like this one.
Don't do it ever again.

Hate to break it to you Stark but WoW servers for a good two weeks or so went down for scheduled maintenance at about 4-5am or so every day ;P But it is a damn fine game. If it's down tho, I'm sure as hell not going to complain, there's lots else to do (like playing on another server hehe)
