I was fortunate enough to win a boxed Astrocade on ebay a few weeks ago. Was excited, at least until I got it. The ebaydiot that shipped it just taped up the original (mostly intact) astrocade box and shipped it that way..

I've removed all of the usps labels successfully, but the entire top of the box is covered in clear packing tape. Is there any way to remove this without risking the destruction of the box? I'm at least glad they used clear tape as you can see through it, but I figure it will only turn yellow with age.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I've "de-shippified" boxes using a hair dryer to loosen the tape adhesive, and WD40 to remove the residue. Actually I used a heat gun, but you can really mess things up fast with one of those if you're not careful.

That suckkkssss. A lot of the time with old boxes you will remove the color underneath. There will be the design of the box still there, but it will be very light...and the tape will be yellow. Wait a minute, that's for OOOOLD tape... :) If it's new tape, not sure. Try what is listed above. You COULD try lighter fluid...that's what I would try (though I've never tried the above method).

Try silver duct tape on an Atari BOX... Ouch! (that's what mine has) LOL
