I remember that quite awhile ago, I heard about a soccer game for the PS2, that was supposed to be incredible. It wasn't Fifa, but I can't remember the name.
Anyways, in this soccer game, the control of the player and ball was supposed to be amazing. Instead of feeling like the ball is attatched to your leg by a string, it feels like the ball and player are truly seperate, and that the control was revolutionary for a soccer game.
Anyways, I can't remember what the game was named.
Anybody know what game I'm talking about? Is this the best soccer game out there? If not, then what is?

Konami's Winning Eleven 7. Dumb name, great game. 8 is out in Japan--not sure if it's coming Stateside. The latest FIFA is really good too, though.

Are you sure that this is the one with the revolutionary ball control? For some reason, I'm thinking that the name was something else.
I remember seeing it on X-Play, and they went on and on about the control of the soccer ball, compared to most games.

Anthony perhaps you are thinking of ISS: Pro Evolution on playstation? That and FIFA are really the only soccer games worth playing (TIF maybe).
On that note, anyone know why the name went from ISS outside japan to Winning eleven everywhere ?

Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution > Winning Eleven 7 imo. But WE8 (or Pro Evo 4 in Europe) is better overall. Even though they usually tinker with the Pro Evo releases compared to the WE iterations, this year they've actually kept it to a minimum, and all the better for it.
Pro Evo 4 supports NTSC 60Hz mode so you may well be able to run it in the US.

Winning Eleven 8 is listed as a Q2 2005 release for the States.
I'm sure Europe has MUCH better soccer games, but here in the States the
best we have available is the Winning Eleven series and EA Sports FIFA series.
Side note -- how IS Winning Eleven 7 and FIFA 2005? I have'nt played a soccer game in YEARS. :)

Forget that! ISS on the Snes, is probably the greatest 16bit footy title there was.. It was released in both the UK and Japan, and had a small release in mexico (ntsc)..
Hell if ya need to play it get the rom! ;)

Also WE 7 has more real uniforms and sponsor logos for the teams as opposed to WE 6. I always liked how the defenders in the game raise their arms for an offside call.

ISS and Pro Evolution soccer are different games. ISS stopped being good after ISS 98 just when Pro Evolution Started getting gud. But Pro Evolution is the same as winning eleven. Ive got winning eleven 6 FE on my cube which is a quality game. I think ISS is called internation winning eleven or something crazy in japan.

Isn't the Winning Eleven series a silightly more arcadey version of the Pro Evolution Soccer games?

Well they are pretty much the same game; Pro Evo does get a tinkering or upgrading in the months between the WE release and it coming out. Usually for the worse sadly. The most common problem is they speed up the game too much, make it harder to play slow and any speed advantage the truly fast players have (Owen, Henry etc) is negated by the defenders being able to catch up quicker.
Except for WE8 in Pro Evo 4. They've pretty much left it alone in terms of fiddling about gameplay wise, all that seems to have happened is the usual squad tweaks and fixing part of the slowdown problem (it still slows occasionally but not as much as the Japanese version).

I'd vote for this one as well. All the "super-realistic" upgrades of soccer over the years do nothing for me., personally.

The winning eleven series is supposedly the best in the world right now. Unfortunately, it goes for a fortune and is VERY hard to find the last time I looked for it.

it's not, as previously mentioned, it's the same game as PAL Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Xbox/PS2) which is easy to come by for anyone for around 50 bucks....

Anyone have an mp3 of the "goal" music for Winning Eleven 6? I used to boot it up, score one damn goal, and just leave the replay on because that song rocks. Hook me up.

I still see Winning Eleven 7 for the PC all the time in my local EB and Best Buy. Must be the PS2 version that is rare.

Really? It sells in the hundreds of thousands with some new edition or other about every year in Japan. If you really are looking for it, I'm sure someone here can help you out, myself included.

Maybe he means the US release of the series...?
The only true rare edition in the WE series I know of is WE6FE for the Cube; only released in Japan, didn't make 6 figures, probably more copies of it exist outside of Japan than in! Goes for $75+ on eBay now easily.

Fifa 2001 for PS2 is the best.

Pro Evo is till the best out at the moment and has the nicest controls and overall balance, also its the least arcadey.
If you want arcadey go for virtua striker 2 on DC or ISS98 N64. Don't touch the fifa games they went down hill since 95 on the megadrive/snes. Just look at fifa 64.

well, as everyone has said, the Pro Evo series (Winning Eleven in Japan) is widely regarded as the best
I think we're up to Pro Evo 4 now (for Xbox/PS2) and it is commonly available. In England pretty much everyone owns either a FIFA or a Pro Evo game or both
