i was playing tony hawk today and began to wonder about what game had the first like "real music from a band" as a selling point (even if it was jsut a crappy midi)

i first thought of maybe crue ball but im sure there has got to be something earlier

i know tehres a journey game, ive never played it but does that have there music?

any ideas?

Yeah it did. It even had a tape in the cabinet that played during the bonus round.

Plays many Journey songs, including a tape of Separate Ways. Bonus round: you (the roadie) must push fans away from the concert stage.

On Amiga it was Xenon 2 in 1989 I think.

I always thought Moonwalker was the first. That came out in '89-'90 though.

Nowhere near the first, but Green Jelly's performance in Maximum Carnage is another early example.

There is a Journey Escape cart for the Atari 2600. And it does have 1 simulated song in it. Don't Stop Believin' :)

Green "Jello" kicks ass!
"Well the second little piggy, well he was kinda stoked.
He spent most of his time just a ganga smokin.
Huffin and a puffin down on Venice Beach.
Getting paid money for religious speech."

Lets not forget the craptacular "Psychosonik" "band" in the "game" X-calibur 2097 for SNES, as well as the "rap"/"techno" "duo" of Anita and Kid Ray, aka 2 Unlimited, in the SNES game Biometal.

Oh yeah, Rock and Roll Racing had some classic reditions of actual tunes, sans vocals, but still not bad.

I can't forget Psykosonik! They are actually a great group away from the SNES game. They are far from craptacular my friend. They have also released albums under the names Hednoize and BPM: Basic Pleasure Model. They have some d/l-able clips on the net, check 'em out.

The first game I can recall that got Accolades for licensed CD-quality soundtracks would have to be Wipeout XL. If it wasn't for F.S.O.L. I would have neer heard of this game. LOL

F.S.O.L. = Future Sounds of London :)

Not the first by any means. Though I remember Activision putting out some licensed MTV, twisted metal type game called Slamscap (?) for the playstation. I believe it had music by god lives under water and a couple other tecno bands.

Technically, I would say Gyruss is the first...it does Bach. Of course, later came Tetris with Tchaikovsky et al.

Yeah, I so want to get an MP3 of their cover of The Mob Rules, but my searches turned up empty. Oh well, I suppose I can just play the game. :p

I dont think this is an example of what your talking about but as were on the subject of music & games. Does anyone remember Rise of the Robots (snes/mega drive) where the music was composed by Brian May (Queen) This was put on the box to promote the game. Awful, awful game though..

Joe. :)

Some of the music in the Sonic games are based off songs by a real Japanese group called Dreams Come True, but I doubt that counts.

Also GWAR did the music for the Beavis and Butthead games.

I bought my PS2 for WO-XL and FF Tactics. XL had some good songs in it. Chemical Brothers were in there too.

First prerecorded Arcade...TMNT? Remember the title screen?
First prerecorded CD: 3D0 Way of te Warrior with White Zombie?
Any objections?
