Shadow Hearts & Shadow Hearts Covenant are easily the two best reasons to own a PS2. They are nothing short of classics. They need to added here.

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Megaman X8, and Suikoden 4 all rock as well.

Although not system specific, I'd have to add Beyond Good and Evil. I pray for a sequel.

Also, with San Andreas being as amazing as it is, might as well list the GTA games as a series.

It may be a little early but I must say that GOD OF WAR is one of the BEST PS2 games out there.

Some of my favourites:

Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance I
I love this Diablo stiled games and the first part is definitely better than the second. Some of the missions in the second part just suck. For example all of the four elemental levesl, especially the air one.

Champions Of Norrath
I've only played the first game but this sure rocks. I'm temped to say it's even better than the first Baldur's Gate game. I love how you can custome your charakter and the levels are just great. What I dislike is that the animals also lose weapons and gold. That's not exactly realistic and if I remember right this wasn't the case in Baldur's Gate.

Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Both games have their advantages but in general the second game is a bit better. The graphics are more comic like and very cute. You have more possibilities (like inventing new weapons and other stuff and taking pictures) but the side quests can get a bit too much after some time. What I like better in the first part is the recreation of the cities. It is much easier and logical. Somehow I didn't really got into it in the second part.

Fallout - Brotherhood Of Steel
Not exactly a surprise to find this game in my list after seeing Baldur's Gate and Champions Of Norrath in it... The game is very similar to the other two games, but it plays in a science-fiction surrounding and you can use guns and stuff. The game is very underestimated, I hardly know anybody who likes it and I've seen it in nearly all the bargain-bins around town. That's really a shame.

And now to a game that is definitely not in my list: Final Fantasy X! Nice graphics but somehow the storyline hasn't sucked me in so far. Too much blitzball and less depth. I will sure play on but the series has somehow lost it's magic touch to me at the moment. I'd rather play Dawn Of Souls or the other old games I haven't finished.

i would agreee that the first dark cloud should be listed, it's a great game but you have to like RPG games and sell in stores cheap. :D
another title is blowout, short but good game. has a contra type feel to the game. and is another cheap title.

A friend showed me Space Channel 5 Part 2 on his Dreamcast last weekend which I have for my PS2 but never bothered to play - hilarious. A definite fun game with catchy music and funny dancing people.

I have soooo many games for the PS2 which I haven't even loaded once. When time permits titles like Gadget Racers, Herdy Gerty, Habitrail Hamster Trail, Rez, Bust-A-Move and others will occupy the PS2. I also played Extermination for half an hour yesterday to get a feel for the game - is this game worth a longer session?

Under-rated...

I-Ninja - A lovely little platformer that's a sort of cross between Ratchet & Clank and Dynasty Warriors. Well designed levels, lovely graphics, a nice control system. Time-limit replays ala (Crash Bandicoot 2-4) that are 'down to the second' hardcore. Cute, fun, creative and a personal third choice for 3d platformer after R&C and J&D.

A few more slumbering giants (most of which have been mentioned in this thread already)...

The Bouncer - Meh launch title but very enjoyable.
Flipnic - I think this is getting US launch this year.
Freak Out (Stretch Panic) - Love it or loath it.
Gregory Horror Show - Ditto.
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil - A beautifully crafted 2.5D platformer. Solidly designed and made.
Mad Maestro - Unique (for the west) Orchestral Bemani.
Pac-man World 2 - Surprisingly enjoyable if a little unforgiving.
Project Zero - Disturbing.
SOS - The Final Escape - Disturbing in a different way.
Space Channel 5 1&2 - Ditto :D

God of War could easily be one of my favorites. Its so bad ass, its one of the better action/rpgish games out on the PS-2. A second game I would have to say is neat, is I-Ninja, that game is awesome!

Anyway, the jist of my favorites are 1) Run around a world and hit crap, and 2) Mindless puzzle solving type stuff!

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is amazing. Easily can make my Top 10 list of favorite fighting games ever.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 is another great fighting game. It's also out for the X-Box, but the PS2's controller is more playable for fighting games.

The only thing I really think is missing are the Karaoke Revolution games. These have spent more time in my PS2 than any other disc in my collection. (Absolutely a blast at parties!)

there are so many awesome games for playstation 2!
where should i begin?

lets start with games that xbox only wished they could have!

God of War: what else needs to be said?
Sequal: not out yet but God of War 2!!!!!!!!!!

microsoft eat your hearts out!

God of War will never be on the Microsoft Xbox.

Why?

Well its Sony's baby thats why...they have awesome programmers that make games people want!

Next title?

how about......hmmmmm......1.....2....then there was a 3!

SOUL CALIBUR 3!

what can the xbox say about this other than....well, it was supposed to come over to play, but IT DIDNT!!!!!!!

then you got another game to add to this list.......

FINAL FANTASY 12.............!

some of you reading this may be xbox fans and that is ok, but i know what you are thinking...."Well we got 11.....so im sure we are going to get 12!"

Ding Ding Ding.....Youre wrong!

"But what do they win Jack?"

hmmmm.....NOTHING!

Xbox will never get Final Fantasy 12......NEVER!!!!!!

youve seen the pics, youve played the demo, youve read the reviews.....Final Fantasy is Japanese and Sony speaks Japanese. Microsoft is just left behind when it comes to games people want.

the defense rests your honor......

Metal Gear Solid 3 MUST be added. Volgin commands you.

Even better than that would be Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. (Not just because of the first two games of the Metal Gear series, either.)

And as far as 3-D Castlevanias go, they're not that bad. In fact, two of them are on my list.

Castlevania-Lament of Innocence.

This tells the story of how the war against evil started.

Castlevania-Curse of Darkness.

Ok, so you don't initially play as a Belmont. But you didn't in Castlevania-Symphony of the Night, which, I might add, is the best of the series. And I didn't hear any complaining about that.

A few more I'd like to add are....

Rumble Roses. (PS2's answer to the X-Box's DOA Volleyball.)
Mortal Kombat-Deadly Alliance.
Mortal Kombat-Deception. (By now, you must sense a pattern developing.)
Mortal Kombat-Shaolin Monks. (If only MKM-Sub-Zero was designed more like this.)
Taito Legends.
Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Collection.
Sega Genesis Collection.
Capcom Classics Collection 1 and 2. (In case you didn't get it, I'm an old-school fan.)
Midway Arcade Treasures 1 and 2. (3 is just a bunch of racing games, not really my bag.)
God of War. (Kratos kicks Link's ass, anyday!)
Dark Cloud. (The only other game I know of where you can recreate the world is its sequel.)
Dark Cloud 2. (Harder than the original, but quite interesting.)

More will be added, later.
