Bought a Saturn game on ebay recently, and the postage cost was £4.00. This is somewhat excessive (most sellers charge £1.50 - £2.00). However, since I got a good price on the game I just paid up. However the game has now arrived - and was sent 2ND CLASS - at a cost of £0.71!!! For paying £4.00 I would have expected at least first class - if not recorded delivery.

I mean, first class would only cost a maximum of 20p extra - what is this guy's problem?? I am tempted to leave negative feedback. Although perhaps that is a bit excessive - but a neutral may well be in order.

What a fleecer!

Heh. I recently purchased a Game Gear for exactly 1 cent. However, shipping was $10. When I received the package, it only cost him $3.85 via Priority Mail.

I won a SJ-200 Joystick (the sort that came packed with the SG1000) recently for about €5.
Postage from Italy shouldn't cost more than about €7-€8 with paerhaps a couple more € for packing, but he's trying to charge me a ridiculous €23!
I'm refusing to pay, and can probably expect to recieve my first kinda-justified negative because of it (from over 600 eBay transactions). Skanks.

Oh, but you are paying for the sellers time. You know, gasoline and the effort to package an item are not free. LOL

I agree completely... that's why I charge exact postage for Domestic orders and exact postage plus the cost of the box or bubble mailer for International orders. After all, I'm sure most eBay sellers are a one man show and don't have to hire a shipping department.

I just factor the shipping cost in beforehand, and marvel at how some people take me for every penny that they can.

Yeah, I know. That's why it would be kinda-justified for him to leave me a negative - I usually would ask in advance, but I just didn't expect he'd have the cheek to charge me around triple what postage would actually be. Ho-hum.
If/when I get the neg, I'll respond saying that he was asking for obscene postage rates. Luckily it'll barely dent my 99.8% record anyway.

I propose a new forum rule that bitching and whining about shipping charges not be allowed anymore.

The arguements for and against have been gone over and over and over and discussing it further doesn't accomplish anything but create hard feelings.

Create a sticky message warning and put it up on the top of the forum reminding everyone to verify shipping and handling fees before bidding on an item and to never bid on an item that does't disclose the shiping fee up front.

Or you could just ignore such posts rather that be bothered by them. Is it really any worse than the tired "OMG L00K AT THIS CRAZY BIN PRICE"-type threads that also clutter up the eBay insanity forum?

I am not complaining about the price charged for shipping per se - which was clearly indicated on my auction, and which I happily paid.

What I am complaining about is that after paying a truly excessive shipping fee, the seller has sent it by the slowest cheapest means possible.

Heck, I charge a standard rate for shipping my items, which includes a little extra - that goes towards packaging materials (tape / labels etc).

And as I pointed out, there is absolutely no reason why this seller could not have at least send the game 1st class - and still made an obscene amount of money. The fact they sent it 2nd class just pissed me off. Despite ripping me off on the posage, they still had to go for the cheapo postage option for the sake of a few pennies - I just find that pathetic.

well if you can see the post price before bidding then I cant see people keep moaning about
when a seller puts a fairly high price on post, this affects the number of bids he gets compared to other similar products.
the total price the buyer usualy pays ballances out, that is whats important the total cost to you..

the end result is that the seller then gets more money as ebay doesnt get as much in the final valuation fee and why deny joe bloggs this slight amount for his product.

break it down,
1 total cost of ownership
2 time to recieve
3 condition of product related to description

if all three are satisfactory then the guy deserves a pos

agreed though the guy is a tool !!! for using 2nd class

Somebody just charged me $9 for shipping for 3 nes games. I first complained. But then My dad told me how he sent one of my items out and it only cost 10.50 instead of the $17 I estimated the shipping would be. The winner ended up being in IL which is a state away so it was pretty cheap... but a contract is a contract.

If you don't like the shipping price, don't bid on the auction.

Hmm

Besides knowing the exact shipping cost up front all it takes is a quick email asking what kind of delivery comes with that.

Geez,
I just paid a penny for a Marsupilami that cost $5.95 to ship instead of bidding a dollar on the one that cost $4.50 to ship. I'm gonna lose sleep over that 45 cents not to mention I could of had the box and instructions too :( heheheheh also not to mention I saw it at gamecrazy for $5.99 ...

What I love is when they charge you extra for the shipping, send the package media mail and wrap it up in a padded envelope all for an item that was advertised "mint in box". x_x

Certainly ceases to be mint when you get it just so they can anal rape you for the price of a card board box. Some sellers are just plain cheap.

I always let sellers know now that I want the the game shipped in a box, but I shouldn't have to. It outgha be common sense or at least common courtesy.

If you don't like the shipping price, don't bid on the auction.

For the last time, it's not merely the price that is the problem. It is what I get for the price. It is like paying gourmet price in a restaurant and then getting served with a supermarket economy microwave meal on a plastic plate - that is what I am pissed off about.

And I won't leave a neg - that was just me over-reacting in the heat of the moment. However, I will be sending an email to ask for an explanation. And if it is not satisfactory, then I will leave a postive feedback, but will make clearly known in the feedback what i think about the shipping.
