Welcome to this week's Monday Morning MAME Club Posting. Every Monday, a member of the MAME club will pick a new game for you to play in MAME! All you have to do to participate is install MAME, download the ROM of the week from this message, and then post your thoughts about the game! You can post a full review of the game or simply tell us what you liked/didn't like about the game. Have you played this game before? Have you played it in an actual arcade? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game! Just remember, if you want people to respond during YOUR week, you should play along on OTHER weeks!

The ROM of the week is: Daisu-Kiss (available HERE (http://www.robohara.com/mameclub)!)
Also be sure to grab konamigx.zip -- you'll need it, too.

"It's basically a bunch of mini-games strung together with a dating theme (think "Mario Party" meets dating sim, and you get the basic gist of it). It's really Japanese text heavy, but the mini-games are simple enough that once you watch the demo for each game, you should be able to pick it up instantly. Also, it's a newer game, but most people shouldn't have trouble running it on their computer." - Gapporin

Hey, Flack, you'll need to post the BIOS file as well. It's called "konamigx.zip", and it's only about 10k in size, so it won't be that much.

Review forthcoming -- I looked at my rom list and realized I didn't have this game anymore! :embarrassed:

Whoops, I didn't realize that. It's there now in the same directory. I'll make a note in the original post.

If you already have Daisu-Kiss, just plop the BIOS file into your roms folder. It should work, then.

My review, as promised:

The object of the game is to fall in love with that special someone in your life. To do this, you have to impress them in various feats of knowledge, dexterity and just plain dumb luck. Do well, and your mate will increase their happiness by way of a heart meter. Do badly, and, well, let's just say there won't be a honeymoon. To think that Konami was putting out Snatcher and Policenauts around the same time as this game is hard to comprehend.

You can try to keep impressing the same mate throughout the game, or switch off every round. In fact, this might have been one of the first games (at least, arcade-wise) to allow you to have homosexual relationships.

The mini-games included can range anywhere from quizzes to whack-a-mole to a dancing rhythm game. The quizzes are more inclined to the Japanese reader, but there are some (like math and geography) that shouldn't be tough to figure out.

The game offers no quarter (Quarter? Get it?) on the difficulty, however. In some mini-games, all you're allowed are two chances, then you're out.

Overall, if you're looking for something you can just pick up and play for a half hour, Daisu-Kiss makes a perfect fit. And there's no commitment needed, either!

I have no idea how to read Japanese, but I managed to get 2 chicks to kiss each other. I give it a thumbs up.
