There was an error in this week's best buy advertisement that came in my newspaper saying that Resident Evil 4 was only $ 15. So I called them up knowing that the game hasn't even come out yet to see if they'd honor their advertisement. I could here the kid on the phone getting agitated as he was confused by the whole situation. He's like,"Why is this game player's choice if it hasn't even come out yet?". So I asked them if they had any in stock and of course the guy said no but I asked him if I could get a raincheck. Well, they gave me a raincheck so when RE4 comes out in January I get it for $ 15.

i live near Chicago so I'm not sure if their advertisements are the same everywhere or if they are regional. I had to physically go into the store for the raincheck though.

Yeah I got that same thing, But it says something like "2 for $30" and the choices are Resident Evil 4, Simpsons Hit & Run, and another game I can't remember.

I know they meant RE for $15 and I had heard that some people tried this but rainchecks were not given. -_-

I saw the ad for it in my Sunday paper too and was quite amused. I was going to scan it and post a pic of the ad on here yesterday, but I had to go to work, a Christmas party and then I was lazy.

EDIT* Just checked to see if I saved the ad and I did. Looks like I'll be going to BB on Wed to get my raincheck :)

They have signs posted in the stores stating it was an error. Don't know anyone that successfully got a raincheck out of this.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. You'd just be wasting your time. I called Best Buy and they said it was a typo (obviously) and it's only for Resident Evil 1, not 4.

haha

anyways, i saw this and thought that perhaps "N" thought the game was in demand enough to make it a Players Choice title from the start. Good thing that isn't the case. :)

Yeah, I saw this too. I was going to make a thread about this as well to see if anyone else caught the mistake.

Good job to those who caught the mistake and got a raincheck out of it! They aren't bound to honor an advertisement which makes this all the more humorous. LOL

Come on. Some people were lucky anuff to get Ace Combat 5 for 5 bucks at sears. Can't a man dream?

None of the Best Buys by my house would honor a raincheck for RE 4. I know this is asking a lot, but is it possible anyone could get me a raincheck? ;)

Well I got a raincheck so why wouldn't they honor it? What the hell will they do when I hand my raincheck to them? If all I get is saliva on my face I'm going to be pretty pissed. So why isn't Best Buy required to honor their ad?

they will put up a sign somewhere near the games, but they won't honor rainchecks, i can 100% guarentee it unless you get an uninformed cashier and get lucky....if they were honoring it i would of bought a few and thru em on ebay

No store is legally bound to honor a price in an ad if it's a printing error. Every advertisement has that disclaimer someplace in itty-bitty letters. That's the store's way of covering their ass if some dumbass typesetter at the printers makes a costly mistake. For example, if there was a car priced for $12000 and a mistake ad said $120.00, the dealership is NOT going to sell you a car at a $11,800 discount.

The legal point is whether the ad was obviously an error. Since they immediately posted "The ad was a mistake" flyers, that's all they need. If you got a raincheck, good for you. Betcha $10 it isn't going to do you any good upon the game's release though, as the store is not liable for the error, nor will they willingly take a $35 hit on it. If you get a kind/ignorant manager the day of release, you may get away with it. But counting on it isn't advisable.

And some us were even able to get Best Buy to price match it at that price, even after the store manager had to approve it. :)

It doesn't even really have to be an error for the store not to honor an ad. An advertisement is nothing more than an offer to sell an item at a certain price. Just like if I put an ad in the classifieds to sell an item, I can retract it at anytime.

Very true.

But if I call you about the item and you tell me that you decided to not sell it or that you want to raise the price, next time you run a classified ad I won't bother calling.

Catch my drift?
