View Full Version : Repairing Asteroids arcade
A Doctor friend of mine in Columbus, Ohio owns the arcade game Asteroids, and it's had some problems working. Within the past week it showed a test screen when it was turned on, and on the second attempt to get it turned on something popped (loud noise) inside the cabinet. Now it is completely dead, and he asked me if I knew of a repair service or someone in the area who would be willing to repair it. I thought I'd see if anyone here could help him out. Are there companies in big cities which specialize in these kinds of on-site repairs?

Steve, your best bet would be to check the phone book for any vending companies, or also find some local video games (like at a mall or store or somewhere) and see if they have a vendor's sticker on it. They will be the people who can fix it (or direct you to someone who can).
Another tried and true method are the newsgroups. RGVAC (rec.games.video.arcade.collecting) is full of people (probably some local) who can help you out.

It would also be good to try and isolate the problem somewhat. When you turn it on now, do the start buttons still flash or are they on solid? If you try to coin it up does it do anything? Do you hear any crackle when the monitor comes on? There are some pretty easy repairs you can do on asteroids that seem to fix a lot of dead games.
