I just got a Sony PS1 screen at a Toys R Us for $44.99. I'm not sure what the normal price is for this screen, but I must say that I'm totally amazed that I got a screen of this quality for my PS1.
It's such a cool screen. It screws right into the little PS1 and locks down on it, and fits it like a glove. The LCD screen is very clear and is a pretty damn good screen in my opinion. Even the little baby speakers are pretty good.
Now all I need is some type of battery pack, and then I can take this thing on camping trips and stuff like that.
Anybody which battery pack is the one to get?

for a new screen that's probably a good price. I got my PSOne with screen and battery pack for that price but it was used. I agree its a great screen. As far as battery packs the one that came with my purchase was the interact one which only lasted about 2hrs maybe less. I ended up picking up another interact battery pack for $15 so now I have about 4 1/2 hrs between the two. The interact one is the only one I've seen. Who else makes battery packs?

Where did you get it for $15?

I haven't actually seen one of those up close - do they look like they could be easily hacked to take any other inputs (other than a PSOne) ?

They have a input on the back , but its the headphone jack video input so you would need a connector from radio shack I guess.

I was so tempted to get one of the PS1 and Screen combos for $99 back in the day, but I wanted to wait for a price drop. Now they stopped making them. :/

Yeah, you can do what I did and purchase a camcorder patch cable. The one I got has a 1/8 inch male connector on one end and male RCA connectors on the other end. I bought some female-female RCA couplers, so now I can plug any system into it, so long as it has composite output.
Unfortunately, that's a lot of conversion and cabling, and I notice some loss of picture quality. For comparison I put Final Doom into the PSone connected directly to the screen, and then put another copy into a Playstation connected to the screen through the 1/8 inch plug. The image was slightly darker and murkier in the latter case. For example, when looking into a dark room, it was harder to make out the wall structure inside when using the 1/8 inch plug. Nevertheless, I'd say that the image is serviceable and any loss in quality shouldn't affect gameplay.
One interesting thing about connecting to the PSone screen is that you don't have to disconnect it from the PSone. As long as the screen is plugged in, it will spring to life when it detects a signal coming in through the 1/8 inch input. Haven't tried inputting signal through both the attached PSone and the 1/8 inch cable simultaneously yet.
Incidentally, I like the PSone's CD player with its wacky reverb options and trippy graphics. Check it out.

You can hook up some video equipment to a PSOne screen with Sony's PSOne "AV Connection Cable". Looks like part number SCPH-180 U/94111. I got mine on clearance from Toys R Us for about $1.50.

I am dead jealous. That cord and those connectors at RadioShack cost me about $20. Plus, you'll probably get a better picture.

Well, you can still try making a run to Toys R Us, I'm pretty sure that both of my closest stores had them in stock at deep discount rates. Don't feel too bad, it might not be exactly what you're looking for, and regardless it's always good to have some extra cables laying around, never know when you'll need them.
