Is the Dreamcast version of this rpg better to get then the PS2 port?

Yes, definitely. I haven't played the port, but from everything I've heard, it's not very good at all. I believe it suffers from jaggies and possibly framerate problems.

From what I have heard yes. Though to be blunt, I didn't really care much for that game to begin with.

It's essentially the same game, but as it has been mentioned... jaggy graphics, slowdown, and blurry textures in the PS2 version.
Totally different from Grandia Extremes, which stinks.

The DC version is way better then the PS2 version. They did a terrible port to the ps2 with that game.

The DC version of this game is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and I've played a LOT of RPGs. Go buy it.

The PS2 game is more complete and has more, but the DreamCast version is a lot smoother and better coded than the PS2 and PC versions.
Hence why it's so sought after and the PS2 is peanuts!

plus the DC version is VGA compatible. i'm not sure that the PS2 version is, and even if it would look good if it was.
i played entirely through this RPG on a VGA monitor and i absolutely loved it. highly recommended.

If you don't mind imports, I have like 3 copies of the japanese version.

Same here the game rocks!
What were the extra features in the PS2 release?

This sums it up. I played the PS version, and could tell something wasn';t "quite right" but from what I've heard theres a lot more story and I believe extra scenes/cg.
Either one, def. one of the best RPG's ever.

It's pretty staright forward RPG stuff, with the exception that all characters move independently on a 3D plane as their attacks go off. And, unlike Wild Arms 3, you can control where your characters are moving, and the movement actually MATTERS. Sometimes, they'll move to avoid an attack, and sometimes you can move into a better position from which to unleash their maneuver.

The combat system used in Granida is VERY close to that in the Star Ocean games, if that helps any.

The Dreamcast version is better. btw, Grandia 2 is a brilliant game.

I loved Grandia 1 better. The story was simple and so pure, "I want to adventure!". Grandia 2 just didn't click with me, for some reason.

Your not alone on this one. I to loved the first one better, in fact it's one of my favorite games ever, but I was highly disappointed in 2. I don't know why, maybe because I loved the first and set my hopes to high, or maybe the fact that they try to make the game darker. Either way I just couldn't get into the game somehow.

Well, I still haven't played Grandia 1. But I loved Grandia 2. I thought it was so cool how you just constantly progressed through the story and the game without having to run around lost like in most RPGs. There is a whole lotta story there for 30 hours of game play.

You can in fact still purchase Grandia II (PC), brand new.

I only played Grandia II as far as the point where your party meets the fat glutton. I had already been in "make myself play more instead of quitting mode," so when I encountered this fat, gross, gluttonous, cruel town leader who was letting everyone else starve in the run-down town, that's pretty much where I quit Grandia II. Other games were already calling to me, and in my opinion, Grandia II is inferior to Grandia I.
I guess whether someone prefers I or II is a matter of the sort of characters and world perspective you like in your RPG's. From what I played of both, Justin from Grandia was a heroic, courageous protagonist, and Ryudo from Grandia II seemed like a moody Squall Leonhart wannabe; Justin's party was made up of happy, energetic, optimistic people from awesome Feena to adorable Sue while Ryudo's party was mostly forgettable with my favorite of his lot being his falcon, Skye.
I confess that, due to various reasons, I did not complete either of these first two Grandia games, so perhaps my opinion would be different if I had. But from what I know of them, I prefer the colorful, optimistic world and captivating music of I over the seemingly FFVII and FFVIII influenced Grandia II.

I actually got lucky and found the Dreamcast version (tho missing the soundtrack CD) at a flea market for fifteen bucks. I didn't know what it was, just that I needed more Dreamcast games.
Wound up liking it, but much like another Game Arts series--Lunar--I found it was kind of "typical" story wise and I could kinda see where all the story beats were going. It was still a good fun ride, and I loved the battle system, but it isn't gonna rival the 16-Bit classics.
