I was wondering if the Sega CD model 2 has a battery back-up, like the Saturn and the 3DO. Also, I heard the memory back-ups for the Sega CD only have a shelf life of just a few years, can anyone confirm this?

it has a backup, but if it is battery powered, then i do not know how it is changed without unscrewing the system open. ive had my sega CD for over ten years and have not had memory problems, while ive had to replace my saturn battery several times

It's not battery-based, I believe, because I have six going strong.

Bingo. I've opened up so many Sega CD ver. 1 and ver. 2's, and well, I've never seen a battery.

Hey Guys

Don't forget about the CD backup cartridge that you use to store backups on.

is there any way to see what is on the memory thing?

IIRC, you can access the memory manager by booting up without a game in, and then going to the CD player screen and clicking 'options' or something like that. Some games, like Sonic CD, also have a built-in memory manager.
