Wow, this has been a great year in gaming. Alot of incredible games have come out very recently, and then there are two major ones coming real soon in GT4 and Resident Evil 4.
But right now, if I had to submit my vote today, I would have to give the prize to.......
San Andre....
Just Kidding.
Actually, my Game of the Year Award goes to "Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal". At least right now that's what I give the award to. Certainly, San Andreas is right there, Halo 2 is right there, and there are some other games right there as well. This is strong year. But Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is just freaking wicked.
GREATNESS

I haven't gotten too many new games this year, but I got San Andreas the day it came out and I'm still playing it...

I have San Andreas second, right behind R & C. S.A. is amazing, but the fun factor in R & C is ridiculous.
S.A. is awesome, but you really should be 18 or over to play that. And it's unfortunate that so many people "shouldn't" experience that game, but really it's very mature, like a R Rated interactive "Menace 2 Society" or "Boyz N Da Hood"

Half-Life 2 its easily one the best game ever created (story (this requires you to put in some thought *gasp*), graphics, sound, gameplay, physics). I enjoyed absolutely every minute of the game (which is short) I really hope a lot of developers take a page from Valve when they come up with games in the future.

Katamari Damacy
Viewtiful Joe 2
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Metroid Prime 2
Halo 2
R&C 3
Of all those, I have to give it to R&C 3. Halo 2 might be great, possilbly even objectively better, but I have to keep the fanboys down.
Katamari Damacy win's the special award for "Most Important" of 2004. Hopefully its success will usher in more great games like that here to the States.

My answer depends on whether or not Bad Boys II came out this year.

If this is personal favorites, since I haven't played Metroid Prime 2, Halo, or San Andreas, my vote goes to Def Jam Fight for New York because it's the one I've played the most. Fable comes in a close second.
Hmmm....
Lord Of The Rings The Third Age. That was THE most satisfying game that I played all year. But......you HAVE to play it on the hardest difficulty in order to experience it to it's fullest. It's tenacious.

Oops, checked a little closer and found I actually bought three games this year.
So my official best of 2004 list goes as follows:
1. Katamari Damacy
2. Hot Shots Golf Fore
3. ESPN 2K5
Sotenga

I'd have to say the top five are, in no particular order:
Gradius V
Katamari Damacy
Halo 2
Metroid: Zero Mission
... (insert fifth game here)
I expect the fifth slot to be filled with an actual game after Christmas. Will it be Metal Gear Solid 3? Perhaps Neo Contra? Possibly Metroid Prime 2? Or maybe even Alien Hominid? The answer coming soon!

I'm all about GREATNESS' choice. I don't think it's that interesting of a game to be called 'game of the year,' but it's unquestionably the game I spent the most time playing. By a margin of 20 hours.
I'm chomping at the bit for the sequel, and I'm even excited to get my hands on Bard's Tale which uses the same engine.

GCN - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Xbox - Halo 2 (... even though it was a huge let down)
PS2 - Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
GBA - Mario Golf Advance Tour, Pokemon LeafGreen
Overall - You know this is hard, because in the end it seems odd, but I got the most hours of both the GBA games then I did of any of the other games, I easily put in over 70 hours on both Pokemon and Mario Golf, and the only game that can touch that is Paper Mario which I clocked in around 35 hours in. All the games were great and gave me a buttload of game time, but I suppose playing Mario Golf almost at least once every day since its release means something, doesn't it?
Mario Golf Advance Tour
Camelot/Nintendo I applaud you.
