RPG parties: Small group or large armies?

Which kind of rpg groups you prefer: a small group of up to 9 aviliable characters (like the FF titles) or large armies of aviliable characters to play around with (like Orge Battle of the Suikoden series)?

i like the small group ones better. i don't like the large groups at all actually.
