Hey folks,
I've been asked many times how DP can host pictures beyond the three that we display in our gallery at the Room of Doom site (http://www.videogamecollectors.com) and I think I have a good solution.

http://videogamecollectors.com/gallery/

I haven't tested it out yet and it probably needs some tweaking but if you'd like to create your own Room of Doom page feel free to use this, free of charge. The system should let you store large images and even caption your photos. At this time, you're ALL "beta testers" so let me know how it works for you and what you'd like to see changed.

Once your personal gallery is online I can connect it to the main page. I'll take care of that as soon as the "beta" period is over and we're satisfied with the way this software works.

Please try it out and let me know your thoughts.

Very cool... here is the one thing that I noticed:

When typing in one of my fields, whenever I'd use an apostrophy the finder function on Firefox would open. :hmm:

Midway through adding captions to my photos, the background colors and styles kept changing.

Same here, but with the slash "/" key. I had to keep repositioning my cursor after the slash to get past that. I'll see if there's anything in the manual about that.

That was just me, trying out the canned styles. I don't like any of them, but I'll leave the default pale green scheme in there until I can study the CSS being used.

Thanks for testing!

Cool idea, I'll try it out later - one thing I noticed though is that emails are included in the page source in plain text - is it possible to scramble them and/or include an option to hide the email address? I've got a spam-phobia ;)

Very nice... makes me wish my photos weren't so outdated.

There are a zillion options but nothing veryobvious about this. I'll keep tinkering and I agree, I'd prefer not to have that displayed on the main page.

You can also adjust your own personal album color scheme by going into properties and playing with the color codes.

still working on it...my email hasnt come in yet...

portnoyds collection is stellar. im glad you set this up joe, as three photos would not do it justice.

i used to stalk portnoyd on ebay several years ago, before i found this site. i knew he bought some fine material, but never realized the number of 'grails' hes got..

No matter what I do, it keeps saying my password is wrong, and permission is denied on anything I try to click on...

Nevermind, I'm trying the applet option, and it seems to be working...

Excellent idea!

I will probably not be able to participate until I re-organize my game collection.

Quick update.

The page has been "DP'ized" and the features to upload your pictures from your own hard drive to our server are fully functional. I see a bunch of you jumped on this early.

Feel free to use it. It's a free service from your pals here at DP and you can link to your collections a little easier than Geocities or Photobucket. Also remember that the five most recently updated rooms are featured on the DP home page, so use the "description" field too!

Joe, is there a way to change your gallery's highlight picture?

Sure, it's easy! Just login, go to your album page, under each photo is a dropdown selection box. Simply choose "highlight photo" and you're done.

I just got done adding mine!

http://videogamecollectors.com/gallery/Flacks-Two-Rooms-of-Doom

The only issue I had (and it's a small one) was I tried the "upload a zip file of photos". It worked, but they ended up in reverse order, so I had to go through and reorder them all. Not a big deal, as I had to add captions and whatnot to them all anyway!

I'm guys, that's a feature of Mozilla Firefox to activate search with one keypress. You can deactivate that in the preferences under Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Accessibility.

If that doesn't "fix" it by properly changing the settings, open a new, blank window or tab. In the location bar text box type in "about:config" without the quote marks and press the [Enter] key. This will bring up all the hidden settings for Firefox. In the filter text box enter "accessibility.type" to bring up all the find feature's settings. Turn all the boolean values to false by double-clicking each line and this will disable all find-ahead features outside of using the menus or the key combination of [Ctrl] + [F].
