A self-explanatory topic, I'd say.
Despite being one of my favourite systems of all time, the Sega Dreamcast is prone to easy breakage as a result of the filmsy parts used with the optical drive's lid. I had to purchase a second Dreamcast becauase my first one does not detect that its lid is shut unless I leave the lid partially open.
Although the Xbox is generally a sturdy console, many Xbox units come with krappy DVD drives (the Thompson model) which are known to break down after very little use.

We'll I have had two Dreamcasts. One since launch (had to be sold during a financial pinch) and one I have had the last 2 years. Never had a problem withe either.
Every system jsut about has had some sort of problems. PSX, and PS2 both had em, the original nes had the blinking thing, I am sure there are others.

Shoddy DC? Wow, I hadn't heard of any of my friends ever having a problem with it, nor have I had a problem with mine in all the years I've had it.

Meh, there are just some oddities, like, for example, my Genesis' 1 reset button while running a Sega CD sometimes does just that; restets.

every now and then my dreamcast will think that the player 1 controller is unpluged and then pluged back in....its like it doesnt recognize a controller is there for a split second....not a big deal, but, its still not functioning 100%...more like 95%
my thompson drived xbox crapped out with minimal use
my vigilante arcade cabinet is being a pain in the ass
those are about all the problems im having...not too bad
My sport DCs dont like to play Segas NBA 2k2 or NFL 2k2. It very weird. Oh and one of them doesn't keep the time so I have to keep seting it every time I play, very anoying.
Had a problem with my Sega CD the little bumpers holding the CD drive at the correct spot died thuse scratching the disk. I put some washers under there so now it works fine.
Thats all though out of all my systems that not too many problems.

My first Dreamcast system saw thousands of hours of gameplay time before it started to have the occasional reset problem but that was only with games that were scratched or poorly printed like Sega Rally 2.
My current DC is about 2 years newer and has had hundreds of hours of gameplay time between me and the friends that I have let borrow it but still works fine. even though its as loud as a 1970 oldsmobile with a broken exhaust O_O

Ha! That's funny! Maybe it was meant to be a Hello Kitty Dreamcast but got stuck in the wrong "body." You have a transsexual Dreamcast. LOL
The other one is like my Grandmother... always asking what time it is. Maybe it has dementia?
I've had two DC's die on me, but the 3rd seems to be the charm. I knocked it off the table and it keeps on ticking.
By the way... I thought I finally killed a Saturn, but it was just the combo RAM convertor cart I was using. Saturns are the best-built CD-based consoles, bar none.
The CDX, while a great little device, likes to stop talking to the CD part of its hardware and just concentrate on the carts. Little bitch!
Cheers

Other than my NES with its "Blinking of the damned" as I like to call it, the only system I've ever had problems with was a PS2 with that damned disc read error.

It seems as though 'they don't make 'em like they used to.' Remeber when SONY was a name that you could trust for quality electronic devices?

It still is... when you're not buying their video game systems. :P

I had a atari Jaguar just die on me, :hmm: no reason I guess it just felt like it.
No DC probs, knock wood.
Now on the other hand I'm on my 2nd Goldstar 3DO, the new one is starting to do the same thing, the disc drive tray goes really slow, sometimes not at all.
Of coarse I apparently think this is really cool because I bought another Goldstar instead of a Panasonic.
Shit, I hope the 3do didn't just hear me say that. :(
