Ok, after looking around on google and this forum, I haven't been able to find much help. So maybe somebody can help me find some help on fixing my gamecube. It is giving me disc read errors on every game I put in there. Some (metroid prime) give it an error instantly. Others (donkey konga) take about 30 minutes before the error. On some games, I can open the lid and close it, and that will fix it for a while, but it'll still give me an error. I just ordered a 4.5 gamebit, and I have the multimeter and an assortment of other tools, I just need a clue.

Fix that likely won't work:

Disassemble the laser, measure the resistance on the POT on the laser PCB, and decrease resistance by 100ohm increments, until it works for hours at a time. This occasionally works long term. It usually fails in a week or two.

Fix that will usually work:

Scour Ebay for replacement NGC lasers and buy one and install it. If the part is good, you are good to go.

omnedon, how much do you typically pay for broken stuff? If this doesn't pan out the way I want it, I may have a gamecube for sale to you.

You can send it back to Nintendo and they will replace it with a referb for something like 35 bucks.

I had the same issue with my day 1 Cube.

The refurb I got was essentially brand new (new case) and has worked fine for over a year now.

on or off warranty?

It would cost you more to ship me the Cube than I pay for them (about $15CDN). The cheapest game console also makes it worth the very least broken. :/

I did mine off warranty.

Nintendo pays the shipping.

They have great customer service.

problem is probably laser controller overheating issued due to faulty assembly in factory. or something is losing power and cant therefore detect the presence of a GOD disc
