I never heard of it before but picked it up online last night with a gift card.
Can anyone tell me what it is or what it is about?
Where there prequels?
Any info would be appreciated.

I got it for Christmas!

I haven't played it yet (I'll have gametime this coming weekend) but it hooked me on the strategic RPG style and what appears to be a random element in dungeon crawling. I wasn't a big fan of Tower of Druaga (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=T&game_id=10178) and Return of Ishtar (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9302&letter=R) (the 1984 and 1986 arcade prequels) but I do like the idea that Namco was willing to revive an old title and characters into what appears to be a very different kind of RPG.

I'll report back when I get to play it, but others may already have been there and back.

It's a pretty long running dungeon crawler series made by Namco (Namcot), in which you just go around a castle trying to save yet another princess, while killing little green goo monsters with very, very slow gameplay. If you have played the first "Tales of Destiny" game on the psx there is also a hidden dungeon bassed off of the series. So yeah, thats about it. From what i heard it's not very good, but i'd still be interested in trying it out.

Pretty much, yeah. Tower of Druaga appeared on Famicom and PC Engine but they're arcade ports. Return of Ishtar has never appeared on a home console as far as I know.

The version i am getting shipped out is for PS2.
It had 22 dollar savings so i figured i would give it a try.
If it is RPGesque that is good too because i like most of th RPGs i play.

I should get it in 5-9 buisness days. So i guess i wil find out for sure then.

In the mean time thanks for the info so far and any more that can be given.

I don't know if it's that Return of Ishtar game, but it's not the tower of Druage by the looks of it.

The arcade games were also emulated for the PlayStation versions of Namco Museum 3 (Tower) and 4 (Ishtar).

That gamecube version of tower of druaga was originally given away free when you preordered baten kaitos.

That game is pure evil, i have never played a game so hard. :eek 2:

Yeah their was a gamecube game. I have a link right here.

It's a Cube version of the original arcade machine (or more precisely the Famicom conversion). Was only available if you pre-ordered Baten Kaitos in Japan. Hard to find in general. You should buy it for that price if you want it, I don't think you'll find it cheaper.

I'm still so sad that I didn't get Tower of Druaga when I got Baten Kaitos. :( Trying to get preorder bonuses from import stores is a pain in the butt. Usually you get jack squat no matter how early you order, or they'll have the nerve to charge a lot more for a copy with the "free" promo stuff.

Baten Kaitos does have a cool dungeon based on Tower of Druaga, though, with the old school music and everything.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was actually wondering what it was for quite awhile now.

This isn't the first Tower of Druaga RPG (sorry if somebody's already mentioned it; on a 56K atm). First one that I know of was on the Super Famicom, subtitled The Blue Crystal or something.

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3135870

Read this feature. It covers the original, the sequels, ports and spin-offs like Semecom Dungeon Drururuaga (GBC), The Quest of Ki (famicom) or Sugoroku Adventure: Tower of Druaga (arcade).

Just a note about Nightmare. In the original aracde game you had to preform certain tasks to complete the level, in Nightmare you have to do certain things (like hit all the torches in the level or use two potions in a row) to get silver and gold chests (containing many nice items) to appear. In the japanese version there was an option in your menu to give you hints to what these tasks are but instead of translating it Namco removed the hint feature completely from the US version  . Might want to check an FAQ for those.
