Last night was a scare.
My 13 year old son was coming home from a friends house last night and was hit by a car. Fortunately he's ok and only received minor cuts and scratches but he had his DS in the pocket of his caro pant's and it suffered a cracked top screen.
He's only had it for a couple days and it was his number 1 most wanted christmas gift so he's a little bummed out by this although I think he's probably more greatfull that he escaped serious injury.
So I told him that we'd send it into Nintendo to have it fixed and we'll pay if we have to since this in not covered under the warranty but do you think if we tell Nintendo the story of how and why it broke that they'll have a heart and fix it for free?

Honestly, I don't think Nintendo would believe it.

As long as it's the top screen, you can order a replacement for $3.95. It's very easy to replace, I'm sure he could do it himself. You can order them from Nintendo's online store.

Why not have the person who hit your son with the car pay for it?

Yeah, if it was in fact the driver's fault, I would think settling out of court would be an easy choice for him. Heh. You know, cover damages, and everyone goes away happy.
But if your son jumped onto the car on a skateboard or something like that, it might be a little tougher to work out. ;-)

Well It's good to here hes ok! I was hit bya car a few years back, and the driver is always at fault our lawyer told us. So I would ask for the driver to pay for a new one.
And honestly unless it was 100% intentional, like jumping out of a bush it is VERY hard to get hit by a car.

it was a case of the driver and my son both being in the wrong place at the wrong time, purely an accident. In fact he was on the bus playing his DS so he missed his regular stop and had to get off at another stop near where he was hit.
The lady who hit him was full on freaked out and so very sorry.
We'll call Nintendo and set up a repair and explain the circumstanses and see if they offer to repair it for free. He just loves his new DS so we just want to get it fixed so he can enjoy it. :)

I don't see why they wouldn't fix it. It's under warrenty and it's broken. Aren't they obligated to do something about it?

Uh... I don't think the warrenty covers car smashings.

thats just the screen cover....if the actual screen...the LCD...is cracked and the liquid leaked out, then you cant just get a $3.95 replacement for it
