Does Final Fantasy actually exist for the Mega Drive?

I had a discussion with a workmate once about this game. He claims he has it, but can't play it as it's all in foreign (Non-English) and I absically said it was either a pirate or plain BS.

Anyway, I never gave it any thought until just now when I downloaded a Rom of this very game...

Now it has the letter "R" after it, so i'm guessing this probably stands for "Russia"??? Am I Right? The game Rom seems to look like Russian...

Was this game actually released, and if so, is it only Russian only?

I am also guessing that it isn't Final Fantasy as we actually know it - It may be just some game which happens to also be called "Final Fantasy"

Anyway, it looks good, and the graphics are great - On par with FFIV!!! I didn't notice a Square logo anywhere though, and the music doesn't sound like the usual...

The Rom is quite dodgy though, and the music doesn't play very well (Maybe a bad dump???) - The game's text is all in foreign, so I wouldn't be able to play it anyway.

I don't see [r] or (r) in the GoodGen file, hmm...that's pretty odd since Russia has at least a few homebrews. The list has Greece, for example (Greece being the country that banned videogames for a short while a few years back, heh), but no Russia!

Freaky. Reminds me of the pirate port of Phantasy Star 4 for famicom...called Wai Xing zhan Shi, or Alien Soldier.

So can you post some pics of this or a link to the rom (forbidden? hey, if it's a pirate rom anyway, what's the harm?).

There IS NO Final Fantasy on Sega systems.

That reminds me, there was a homebrew hack of Rockman X3 for Genesis.

This does exist (kind of), but it is a pirate. When I was in russia last year, I saw a Final Fantasy for the Genesis. It had the art from the Final Fantasy movie on the cover, and it had was in Russian. My memory is a little bit fuzzy, but I am about positive it was one of the SNES Breath Of Fire's. I still kick myself for passing this up for 300 rubles (about $10-$12)

Where did you get this rom. I would love to play it.

No idea what game it was originally but the graphics look really nice, as if they were optimized for the Genesis platform. Planet Emu . net has it.
