the saturn has it's own internal memory, although it's relatively small. you can buy memory cartridges for the system in additional to it's internal memory.

dreamcast uses VMUs. (visual memory units) these have their own lcd screen, and save data from games. the VMUs themselves really don't hold too much, i've got maybe 20 games a pop on 2 of mine... but you can buy larger memory units without the LCD screen...

It depends on how much memory the actually game file takes up. You could save 20 games or end up just saving one.

best to pick up a memory card for the Saturn. If the internal battery dies, you lose your saves

yeah, always better to be safe than sorry.... a new battery in the saturn should keep the memory good for a few years though, at the least.

A memory card is necessary for Sim City 2000 on the Saturn. The save files are huge. If you're only planning on playing Nights or some fighters, then you really don't need one. Just make sure the battery isn't near dead.

If you do pick up a Saturn or a Dreamcast, pick up a couple of CR2032 batteries at the same time. They are cheap and are used by both systems to save games. Especially with the Saturn getting up their in age, it would probably better to put a fresh battery in.

Yea, a lot of the time the internal battery is dead. So pick up a memory card if you can. I still need to pick one up myself.

Be sure to get the official Sega memory card for the Saturn because most of the third party memory carts are flash in which your memory can be lost very easily.

I picked one up on ebay for $16.00 though they can run fairly high. Once you get the memory cart you can take the save states on your Saturn internal memory and switch them to your cart or vise-versa.

Memory manager can be accessed on the Saturns startup options menu.
