View Full Version : What's the highest price you've seen for an SMB/Duck Hunt?

As all of you know, SMB/Duck Hunt is one of the most common game carts out there (if not the most! LOL ) That being said, it's obviously extremely easy to find one on the cheap - in fact, I've heard stories about the big chains GIVING AWAY SMB/DH carts at one point!
But every now and then, and it's happened to all of us - we'll run across an overly expensive one. Maybe it will have a price tag with four digits, and you'll have to keep yourself from laughing as you think "they're NEVER going to sell this."
So tell us, what's the highest price you've seen for an SMB/DH cart in the wild?
Personally, my experience isn't too exciting - I've seen one or two priced at $10 on separate occasions, and that's about it.

this one woman with a game store around here intentionally seperates and marks up ALL games with mario in the title. super mario 2 for $10, SNES mario all stars for $20 and *gasp* mario 64 for $25...but oddly enough her non mario games are priced more or less reasonably. everybody knows that mario is the most popular nintendo character but what they do with that knowledge is hard to figure. you'd think when she filled up yet another shoe box with super marios it would hit her how common it is, nope to her its just proof of how popular/desireable it is.

And there were 5 of them right next to eachother. Torn labels, gouged carts and all. LOL

I swear if I ever open my own store, I'm going to have a basket with free Combats, Odyssey2 Cryptologics, and of course SMB/DH. If you need one, take one (or all). Kind of like the give-a-penny/take-a-penny thing at stores.

There is a ratty ass flea market near me that is selling all his games for $10, which includes 2 or 3 Super mario/Duckhunts. One time he was telling me how rare all NES games are, and especially the Mario games. I was like "yeah , ok buddy". LOL

And I thought this was one of the rarest games out there??? Learn something new everyday! Lol!
That's nothing, I know a shop that charges at least 4oo swedish kronor but usually more for nes games (common stuff like Super Mario). Due to the low dollar and higher prices over here that's $60 (and that's still less than what non-budget new consol releases costs over here). There is another store that have lower prices though, about 149sek ($22) - 250sek ($37) for lose nes games.

5.99 at a thrift store. A pawn shop down the road has it for $5.00. The funny thing is, people still will pay 5 to 10 bucks for these titles, just to relive a moment of their childhood. Yikes!

I saw it for 24 dollars once at a seedy local game shop.
I remember asking the owner of this old CD trader that used to be by my house about NES games they had, he told me that they had plent of SM/DH and not much of anything else.
Man I miss that place...

I remeber back when funco was at its peek, there was a fairly large one near me, and they had tons of mario/duck hunts.
they had them for 9 cents each,
I asked the guy behind the counter how many he had..(i could see about 50 behind the counter) he said about 40 or so more then was out on the floor,
I bought them.
ALL
I got some very strange looks that day.
when we were driving away I was going through the bag checking out the label varients (there were more then you'd think) and any with damaged labels or some kid's name on them..I flung them out the window (yeah stupid times)
for months i had all the remaining ones stacked on my shelf, till a very very very bored day where a firend and I took a bunch out to the backyard and played a new game called mario/duckhunt/baseball. It was about as much fun as it sounds. we had a bat and a sword and many a cart were skewered that day.
my parents were PISSED a few days later when they saw all the plastic chunks in the yard ;-)
but thats my totally random story about the death of many mario duckhunt carts.

Maybe, but the European carts won't work in NTSC NES systems. :P
I think a lady wanted me to pay $10 because "it's got two games!". She also wanted $50 for Mario All-Stars. "It's got FIVE Mario titles! I'm selling it cheap!" Yeah, right lady. I never bought anything off her again. :P

The most expensive I've seen a SMB/DH selling for was $10 at a local pawn shop, and I've seen them as cheap as a quarter. The only thing that game stores have in common about SMB/DH is the sheer number of copies they have on hand. It's as if Nintendo made two copies of that game for every NES console.... :)

If anyone was interested in a change of subject for this thread........
When was the last time you actually paid for a copy of Mario/Duck Hunt? I would be talking mainly about a store purchase. So fess up. How recently have some of you actually bought a copy of this?
Getting it in a huge lot of NES games or as a throw-in does not count.
Buying it with 2-3 other games: Yes.
Getting it in a box of 15-20 (or more) games: No.
Buying 10-20 copies of Mario/Duck Hunt in bulk: No.
I will actually be buying it within the next 1-2 weeks, since a friend gave me the NEX Messiah as a gift. I'd long ago sold off my NES and don't even have Mario/Duck Hunt anymore since it was sold off with the NES.

I've never paid for a copy of SMB/DH, but I paid $1 each for separate copies of Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt (does that count? :)) My copy came from a friend that gave me about 50 NES games taking up space in his closet.

Some woman at my local games store prices everything "popular" really high, so it goes for 15 dollars.
Strangely, most of the other stuff in there is fairly decent, such as $10 Saturn games. I even saw Shining Force III for 10 dollars.
Of course, back before Gamestop/Babbages/EB/Funcoland/Software Etc. all sucked they had a ton of them for .29 cents.
How I miss those days, when it wasn't a bitch to find games for consoles that weren't overpriced garbage. (I just don't care about PS2 games, okay.)

Nothing more fun than interacting with your games in a physical way! The other week my friend got well over 100 Genesis games for $15, all are sports except a few that I salvaged out the bunch. Tonight, for example, we got some use out of them by means of shooting BBs through the fronts. They are really nice targets because the face is weak, so if you can hit the cover label you're GTG. I also got a bit bored and slammed a few NBA and NFL carts into the concrete breaking it's case everywhere. I may end up trying to salvage a few carts and sell them on eBay and see if someone will buy them. LOL

I bought one last December for 25 cents. I had just acquired an NES the month before (it was the first NES I've owned since the mid 90s, when I sold off the one I had as a kid) and it didn't come with any games.
