i'm lucky enough that the game crazy nearest me is staffed by two guys who are competent, helpful and enjoy games.

their district manager, however, is a shithead.

most recently, he handed down an order to toss all cases for ps1 and dc games. the store gets a ton of good stuff, so it's a pretty depressing thing to see all those games with just paper sleeves. when i was by today i made the awful mistake of going through the ps1 section to see just what i was missing out on because of this.

i found fox hunt.

they had the box for motherfucking fox hunt, and because of this guy it got THROWN. OUT.

i can't believe this nonsense. i came home very disappointed. they said they can hold anything i can list for them if they come in again, but not too damned likely that will be traded in twice.

What I want to know is why he would want to have paper sleeves instead of the cases?

That guy is just nonsense.

Are they on shelves or stacked up on each oher?

they're just lined up on the shelves in the cheap paper sleeves. it's to save space. i guess i could totally agree with that if a whole lot of people buy ps1 games, but i don't get how it would be a problem to keep them in boxes behind the counter or in the back like they do with tons of other things like saturn games.

Yeah that policy is lame, but then again most of the people that buy games there don't care about cases or boxes, they just want the game.

it was thrown out months ago. believe me, if they had pitched it that morning i'd be dumpster diving in a heartbeat.

I don't see how that policy would save much space, plus it'll lead to discs getting scratched/broken.

Wow, that sucks...horribly. Someday, though, when people realize that games are a valid art form these people will not be remembered fondly for what they've done...(if, indeed, they're remembered at all) :(

I think a lot of Game Crazy stores do this. It makes no sense. Look at ebay - you can get double for complete disc games vs. disc-only. It's not just collectors. No one I know would buy a disc-only CD. And how much space do they save anyway?

I know that I passed on a ton of Dreamcast games at the local Game Crazy because of this strange policy.

i know sharc, i recently quit there because of stupid stuff like that, luckily for my my assistant manager let me take home a crap load of empty ps1 cases...but it was rather stupid....apparently they think people dont want cases... -.-

LOL I feel sorry for anyone who buys Metal Gear Solid from that store. They'll be screwed.

Unless they know of Gamefaqs that is.

Thank God we don't have a stupid franchise like that here. Good name for it. How ridiculous. Like a CD jewel case is overly thick. So are they going to do the same with the PS2, Cube and XboX games? Those DVD cases take up far more room.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. Fortunately, it varies by store - some will throw everything out and some will keep the boxes/manuals that get traded in.

And Gamecrazy doesn't throw out manuals/cases to PS2, GC, and Xbox games, and I hope that never changes, because that's when I'll stop shopping at Gamecrazy for good.

They also don't throw out cases/manuals to Saturn and Sega CD games, which doesn't make much sense considering those games take up a lot more space than PS1 and Dreamcast games.
