I'm about to get one or the other, I would really like to hear what are the advantages/disadvantages of both, if there are any.
Does one or the other offer better sound, and/or visual? Is one more reliable than the other? Any reason why I should get one over the other?
Anything that would be of help, would be appreciated by this fellow gamer. =)

Toploader.
I really dislike my Super 8. It's a royal pain getting NES games in and out of it. I'd rather blow on my games to get them to work in a sideloader than pry the NES games out of the Super 8.
But, I have a toploader as well & love it. My only complaint is there's no A/V.

They both have + and -'s. I'd get both.. I can't play scrolling games on the toploader.. it's just to stripy. and the lack of AV is a big hit..
The Super 8 is cheaper, has better video output, and allows you to only have one console hooked up for 4 systems.. Only downfall is some SNES games think it's a game genie and you can't play gun games with it..

you could get a top loader with Av, good luck finding one!
I like my top loader, but I also hate the fact it does nto have Av out. and you would have to take the cover off to use a GAR or shoving a Game Genie in it(that, is why you dont cheat!)

There is a how to for AV mod but I can't recall which web site (got to clean up bookmark one day :P)
Personally I would ditch Super 8 because Super 8 doesn't support NES controller so you can't use ROB, the good Arkanoid paddle, Power Pad, Power Glove, etc. and no light gun either. :P
Super 8 is only goiod if your shelf is really cramped or if you don'e have $100 to burn along with paitence as sniper would beat your bid anyway.
I'll stick with my front loading NES for now. The replacement 72 pin connector from MCM Electronics does the job well.

i think i read somewhere that the super 8, for NES games wouldnt let you use the Start, or select button on controller 2. That would make some games virtually unplayable for a second player.

I don't have a Super 8, but I did get rid of a top loadesr because the "stripes" annoyed me so much. I really think the Top Loader is overrated. The picture quality is substancially less than the toaster, even using the RF box. Just get a new connector for the toaster. Cheaper and better.

1) there is no US AV top loader, you can buy a JAP top loader that has AV, but that isn't the same. Even looks different then the US top loader.
2) The AV mod does not get rid of the stripy graphics.
a super 8 is still your best option if you can still get em for $30.00

www.gamesx.com has the mod to add AV to a toploader NES. It is a pretty easy and painless mod, from what I remember.

I second Captain Wrong's suggestion. Best of both worlds is a good old toaster with a new pin. Easier than a mod, and the pins are not really pricey (unless you are a canuck :-( ).
The new pins seem to be a better design, and seem to be a good permanent solution.
