I don't have a DS, and really haven't been following the launch too closely, although today I went online and started searching for information.

One thing I'm curious about is when the group thinks we will see the first flash cartridge capable of backing DS ROMs? I know some of the GBA carts will allow emulation on the DS, but I'm talking about a dedicated DS flash cart. Clearly our oversees pirate friends must be working overtime on this, so it's only a matter of time until one launches.

Any opinions? My guess would be something will be leaked by the end of February. Now I don't base this on any real evidence, just my experience with HW/SW design and the realistic minimum time to launch a product. Any idea how soon after the GBA launch, the first flash carts were released? Might be an interesting datapoint for comparison.

i'd guess longer than that, look how long it took for the cube to get hacked, and even that isn't really finished yet, plus i'm sure nintendo stepped up the protection on the ds after the gba flash carts came out. who knows tho really.

Hopefully as soon as possible. I would love to hook it up to the AC near my big screen and put walkthroughs on it and set it right next to me.

I hope theres a flash cart soon. That way we might get some emulators, video playback and stuff...

It's not about the DS or flash cart, it's about the games. Why own a cart for a system with 3 good games? That is one of the reasons no one bothered to mod out or hack up the gamecube for so long.. When only two games a year come out worth playing why hack it?

A GBA flash cart was worth it because, for me, I got a portable NES emu.

It should be pretty soon.

The DS has been hacked already and the first DS Roms have already been dumped.

/me laughs at this Topic, then points everyone to Nintendo.com and other news sources at the endorsed Peripheral giving the DS the capabilities packaged in with the PSP.

/me then laughs maniacally and schizophrenically as he informs you that if it can play music and video software, chances are you can load anything onto it.

/me watches as no-one does a google on what the hell he is talking about.

Nintendo already announced an add-on to the DS that will allow it Media playback....all this Hacking, should pretty much be just to figure out what Nintendo's security feature is. Flash carts? You wont need flashcarts, because Nintendo is building their own 50 Dollar contraption of Piracy.
I should correct myself, Most people wont need Flash carts. You people that refuse to support the gaming industry but instead support the Emulating technology may still use Flash Carts for mass storage devices. Which is ridiculous, considering the very lsmall manufacturing cost of a Flash cart vs. the development costs of a game....

of course, that's been covered a million times.

right?
