With the current craze for classic games and compileations on next gen systems, I'm wondering why we havent seen one for the Shining Force line (other than that GBA remake). I think a lot of money could be made from a few discs containing all of the SF and Shining games.

Also anyone think that we'll ever see a stateside release of all three SFIII scenarios? I was always mad a Sega for releasing only one part of the story.

How is the GBA version, by the way? I've almost bought it on a few cases. I really liked the Genesis ones and the one for Sega CD.

I hope we do see it, but I think that if Shining Force gets resurrected, it won't be a reissue of the SF III scenarios. I'd love for that to happen, and that's precisely why it won't happen ( :) ). We'll probably get some super duper 3D overly complicated game with a built-in-tomagachi feature somewhere in it for the Xbox.

I haven't heard of any remakes, but there were 2 new games in the works for the PS2.

Shining Tears and Shining Force Neo.

shining force was a brilliant game and probably one of my top favorite games.

Shining Force was released on the Sega Smash Pack for DC and PC (a pretty bad port, by the way).

Yep...no translation of SF III parts 2 and 3 will ever be coming unless they're fan-translated. Sega canned the project and never revisited it. At this point, it would cost more to translate them than they'd make off em.

Hmm...I think Shining Force - done in the same style as the old MD/Gen games - would work on the DS. DS seems to be skewed towards RPGs anyhow :)

I really liked it, the dialogue was vastly improved and the storyline fleshed out a bit more then it originally was. Also if you've already played through the original, then it's fun to try the new version with it's battle goals. Just something new to do you know?

Although they ruined some character portraits, while improving others. And they killed magic, thanks to the addition of the magical defense stat, it's pretty worthless fo heros and enemies alike. Also all the new characters they added were all pretty much broken. As much as I love Narsha she can be a little too "good" in battle.

I never even tried out the taro cards.

Maxlord, it's Scenario 1 and 2 we don't have.
Shining Soul is pretty decent (I'm obsessed with Action RPG's, shoot me), and Shining Soul II has some excellent multiplayer, but Shining force is going nowhere. Btw, the SSP remake of Shining Force was a direct port, how could it be a bad port?!

we dont have 2 & 3, the ending to the ouside-JP release of Scen1 was altered to make it 'seem' like a stand alone game

*waits for Daria to correct me :P*

So let me get this right...is Shining Force (Sega CD) and Shining Force on (GameGear) the same game or no?

Shining Force CD is a compilation of both GG games, neatly tied together for continuity. Moreover, it has an extra battle (you need the RAM cart to get there) that lets you use all the heroes from both scenarios at once. Great stuff.

The Smash Pack version IS a direct port. In fact, it's just emulated. A lot of people complain about the Smash Pack, but I think they're just being too anal about it. Besides the sound, it's emulated just fine. I played through Shining Force (along with other games) on the Smash Pack, and I enjoyed it greatly.

Emulation > screwing up a port, that's for sure! Game companies don't necessarily have all the files they used to develop the old games and the expertise in programming 2D games isn't quite what it used to be - in any case that stuff takes time.

you should see the PC Verison of Sega Smash Pack Vol. 2...this emulated Shining Force is dead on

Well, to be fair, Shining Force CD has FOUR battles -- the first two are remakes of the Shining Force GG games (one released in the States, one not), the third one is a bonus one, and there's a TINY LITTLE forth battle after everything also.

And the RAM cart is not NEEDED -- there IS a way to get around that, as stated in some FAQ's. But it's MUCH eaiser to have the RAM cart. ;)

Shinging Force for the Genesis was fun, but the second was much better. I did'nt know the Shining Force for GBA was just a remake of Shining Force 1, though. :/

Never played SF 3 for the Saturn.

I think there are some other series that do 'strategy tactics' better -- Orge Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics, Front Mission, Fire Emblem, Suikoden -- but SF is still a very good series. I'd like to see Sega make a ALL NEW Shining Force game for the XBox or GC.

I keep meaning to play those games... I have two of them (SF1 and SFCD I think).

I always wanted them as a kid (but didn't have a genesis) and now I have them but don't play them. O_O

Fraid not. We got Scenario 1. Scenario 2 and 3 were never translated and only released in Japan.
