Heres what to do to not get banned

Turn chip off and register for xboxlive with your new hdd, m$ are now assciociating the hddserial with the gamertag, if it changes = banned

If you have been banned heres what to do

Get new eeprom and change your xbox eeprom to the new one
Install bigger hdd
make sure modchip is off and sign up for live

And thats it.

M$ are not scanning for stuff on hdds or the drive size, also this LPC scan thing is crap, that chip wont boot unless its interupting the D0 signal

HOWEVER.

X3 owners beware, the 1.6 bios boots from the LPC and some x3s have turned on while on live which = banned

We think its safe to say that the recent crop of XBL bans have come about by M$ collecting your eeprom data including your HDD serial number / key when you sign up to Xbox Live for the first time - this is what's known as the "Marriage Theory".

So basically if you upgrade your hard drive after signing up to XBL your account will get fried. We feel there is no "drive scanning" taking place so dont be paranoid about where you are storing your files.

Solution?: Upgrade your hard drive BEFORE signing up to the XBL service.

Hope this helps!!!!!!

Not so sure about this. I registered Xbox live on my first Xbox, transfered the account via memory card to my second Xbox, and used it on about 3 other peoples xboxes... still going fine for me.

No you see it works like this

Gametag Xtasy
EEPROM number 444
HDD number 555

Then if it detects a change in EEPROM serial or HDD number it bans

for instance if i changed HDD and it became this

Gamertag Xtasy
EEPROM number 444
HDD number 111

It would ban.

If both are different it thinks its on another box and doesnt ban it.

i think what xtasy means is that if your hdd number changes on YOUR eeprom, then you will get banned.

OK, I'm new to Xbox, so this question may be dumb. If the Marrage theory is blown, so to speak, does that mean I can swap my broken MB for another without worrying about the HD? I have no live account, yet, so I'm not worrying about that. Thanks.

Most likely yes.

Mobos and HD's are locked together with 128 bit encryption Live or no. If a HD is not locked, or is locked to another mobo, it will not work on an unmodded box.

Yea, thats what i was trying to say :)

Also if your HDD was locked and your mobo fucked up you'll have to transfer the EEPROM the mobo was locked with to your new mobo (solder the chip in) also you need the HDD key something i hope you remembered to write down :)
