I'm selling SNESP (portable super nintendo) made by Ben Heckendorn Benheck.com . I bought it from him in September and I unfortunately need to raise some cash to pay bills so I've put it up on Ebay. I paid a little over $400 for it so I want to get my investment back. I emailed Ben the other day so he may know someone who wants it since I don't think he is going to make any more. He said he used it for his book. Here is the link on ebay. There are lots of pictures.

THAT!!!.. has got to be the coolest thing I have ever seen. SO professionally done as well.. it really looks factory made. If only I hadn't ran my CC bill up so high over the holidays; I'd be on that in a "heartbeat". Hmmm.. <eyes his boxed TurboDuo..> ..nah.. can't part with that either.
Good luck though.. I'm sure you'll get a lot for it. Talk about "unique".

Some of your keywords appear to be non related
Good luck selling. If it goes for $400 or more I will be surprised. You never know how much it will go for until you auction it off. Hopefully it will not be pulled.

Am I the only one not turning over the unique BenHeck portables?
I just got me the PSPone from the guy that bought one (should be one more out there, actually.) I have no intention of parting out any of my BenHeck portables unless I have an identical dupe.
I'm tempted to bid on this one, but then I already have a different SNES-p. It would be cool to have two different models.
Ben does really nice work with his portables.

Just an FYI, I think I've sent Newby101 around $1,000 over the past year over several different purchases. Always great packing, always great shipping, always great communication (before, during, and after a sale).

I saw the other snes portable and the ps1, and atari portables he made, they are just amazing, Im not tempted though since the gamecube portable screens are compatable with the snes, for much cheaper...still not a handheld though.

Hi ianoid - sounds like you have the lead in the BenHeck collection. Do you have the vertical SNESP with the 3inch screen? His PS2P sounds like your next system... but I think he only made one. :(

No offence or anything, but this handheld is damn ugly. And you already have the GBA, which is so to say the same as a portable SNES and much much cheaper, not to mention smaller.
Does it play all regions btw, NTSC/PAL?
Dont know how rare this is, but it might be some collectors out there who wants it. So good luck with the auction! :)

The value of this item isn't just the fact that it can play SNES games. It's that it is a one of a kind item, made and documented by a well known member of the gaming community. I'm not sure I follow your logic comparing it to a GBA. Playing pirated ROMs on an off-the-shelf system doesn't really compare to a unique hand-tooled system.
Since you said you don't know how rare this is, let me tell you. It's a hand made one of a kind.
Do some reading here: http://www.benheck.com

Pirates roms? what are u talking about? What i ment was that i'd rather buy a GBA for about 1/5 of the price instead of this :)
GBA have just the same games as SNES, atleast many of them. Yoshi's island, Super Mario World etc etc.. Also same with 8chan music and gfx.
This thing looks huge and doesnt look very "portable" because of its size.
But ones again.. collectors might want it. I would pay max $50 for this one, no matter how rare it is (unless i could sell if for a higher price hehe :))

Comparing this to a GBA is downright hilarious!!!
"I would pay max $50 for this one"
Well... considering that even a GBA costs more than $50, you are pretty damn cheap. LOL
I really want one of Ben's NES portables, but I don't have the money right about now to afford one.

U understood me wrong. What i ment is that id rather buy a GBA (already have 1 tho) if i wanted to play SNES games (no, not ROMs, as i said GBA is simular to SNES games), instead of using 400 dollars on this thing.

The SNESP is a unique one of kind item and a great addition to any collection. Thats why most collectors would be interested in it. I don't want to get into a SNES vs GBA debate, but I will say size matters. The GBA screen is too small. Why do you think all the new portables are bigger. There is a reason you pay 3 or 4 times more for a 27" LCD screen compared to a 15" LCD. 8-)

I checked it out. I can't afford it, but I noticed someone bid on it, so it looks like you got your investment back. Now lets hope its not an NPB *crosses fingers*

How is the light on the the screen? Does it have good background light?
I remember when I bought the GBA and i looked at the screenshots back at the game boxes. They where full color and realy good light. But when i got home the light on the GBA was much worse than i thought, still playable tho.

what is the going rate for one of Ben's ATARI 2600 portables anyhow? I would love to get one but I can just imagine the price tag, but I'm asking just to see if they are even close to my price range.

Hehe. Where did i say i didnt collect? You know how many diffrent things there are to collect? Just because i dont collect portable consoles does that mean i dont collect? no.. it doesnt :)
Would you pay $10.000 for a comic book? If you say no, should i then say im shocked because you dont collect?

The screen is the same screen that is found in playstation lcd systems. I think its 5" or 4.5". ... I'm not sure how much he charges for the 2600's. Its probably around $400. It might also be less if he used a smaller screen.

Is something wrong with you? How old are you? I think this think looks great, just like the snes. I also think it is worth the $400, but I just don't have that kind of money to spare. And the gba only has about 10 games that were originally on the snes. People collect here, this is a one-of-a-kind item and whoever gets it will be very lucky. This is a rarity 10. :D

Thanks for the thoughts CharityCase - I expect a couple snipers, but if there aren't any nicolus will get a good deal. I already posted on Ben's forumn that if it goes over $450 I'll donate 50% of the amount over $450 to Ben's future projects.

Um.. i ask the same question back to you, is something wrong with you? How old are you? Just because i think this design is bad (design could have been better imo) means that something is wrong with me? Ehm.. as you probly dont know, you cant discuss taste, but now you should know.

Yeah, I think it looks cool, too, but then I understand it's a matter of taste.
I can't entirely imagine how someone into old tyme games wouldn't like Ben's consoles, but then again, I'm sort of limited like that.
It went for around $480, I think. I'm not surprised. There should be lots of SNES fans dying to get their hands on a SNES portable. I'm just surprised that there are enough that are knowledgable enough to realize it's value given how few have been produced.
Sometimes when very few (or none) of something comes up on eBay, it's hard to assess it's value, and may come up short in bids.

Ye.. no doubt its cool to own something realy rare and original like this. Im not saying that. I wouldnt mind owning one of these, but that doesnt change the fact that i dont like the design that much. Think its bad to start dissing me because i dont like the design.

I don't like the design of it either, but that's completely a matter of taste.
I also don't see how it costs so much in the first place. The parts are not that expensive and the machine he uses belongs to a company. Now don't get me wrong, I think he does a great job and has some really cool project too (I really like some of the Atari portables), just I can't fathom the prices he gets on this stuff.

Yeah, considering 99% of the people out there have no idea how to make something like this much less have access to the parts. These are all handmade, and very pressionally done. It's not lke he's hacking some crap together in an hour.

Assuming no wasted consoles:
SNES mini + controller = $45
Casio TV = $100
Other parts = $25 (guess)
Tooled case = you go ahead and find anyone who can make you one. I would guess this would cost $50 retail minimum. He has special access to plastic and machinery.
So we're at something like $200 (being cheap on the case). He asks $300-$400 for the consoles typically. Assume it takes 8 hours to make one of these (check out Ben's webpage at www.benheck.com to see how it's done), although it takes far more, and you've got around $100-$200 left over. Hourly rate of $12-$24 to build these? I would consider that a steal. And I'm probably underestimating costs of parts and hours to make these- with planning, experimentation, etc.
I am a HUGE fan of Ben's creations, and I actually do have a SNES-p. I have my criticisms of most of the designs, but that doesn't mean that I am anything short of pleased with every handheld I've got from him. I am a total flag waver for Ben Heck's stuff.

Its probably more expansive then your calculations. The monitor is a 5 inch screen instead of the casio 2.5 inch. There are speakers in the system. The powersupply/rechargable battery pack, and there are extra homade circuit boars for buttons and something else. Lables are coupe bucks...wires and more wires, construction materials for case.... etc. I would estimate cost closer to $300. And thats if you don't fry anything and have to replace it. :)

I cant say the looks are great for all the systems I see thats been made by em, but dear lord, if I ever win the lotto, I know what I am buying. Also know I'm going to have ALOT more free space. Which would be pointless as I would be rich then.
