View Full Version : Who here could actually name thier favorite game?

I couldn't even begin to. Maybe if it was favorite by system, then by genre... and even then it would be pretty hard to try to narrow it down. ^^;

How about you guys?

easy: Nights into Dreams. There's dozens of contenders for second place, though.

To name only one single game: impossible!! A top five(in no particular order) would be realistic. Or top game for every system, but only one game. No way!

I can narrow it to a top 5, but probly not a top 1.
#1 would be either Castlevania SOTN or FF7

Super Metroid, Zelda link to past, Zelda 1, FF6, FF4, DW4, Monkey Island 1/2, would all be up there...

For me it's The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (N64).

But my fav will alway be Contra for the NES.

The only way I'd be able to answer this is to think of the ol' Desert Island situation, where I'm only allowed one game. On that basis I'd spend the rest of my life with a Neo Geo and King of Fighters '97.

Sure can, The first Grandia for the saturn. I would have to say that game is without a doubt the best RPG of all time. The battle system was fast paced and actually fun for a change, and the hugh dungeons in that game just kept me coming back for more, I felt the need to search every square inch of them. So, yeah, though some games do come close, Grandia takes the cake in my book.

I thought this question would be very difficult for me. Thinking of all the games I enjoy one title kept surfacing again and again.

Super Mario Bros for the NES.

I still go back to that game on a regular basis. It just doesn't get old for me.

I'm going to go with Grim Fandango, however.

I have only heard this game EVER mentioned 2 times (this being the second) i should check it out.

I guess i will go with the island situation too. If i was stuck there with others it would have to be GoldenEye.
If i was stuck there by myself and for some ungodly reason i had a internet connection to go with the electricity and furnishings(they have no reason to be their either...) it would be Halo 2 for multiplayer.
If i was to choose a single player game i couldn't do it. There are to many i love. I would just swim until i hit land or found some hungry shark :-P .

It's hard to say obviously, but with the amount of time I spent playing this in the arcades along with the amount of time I spent duking it out with my friends on the snes, I am almost obliged to go with Street Fighter 2. What an awesome port!

Some of my old college buddies were in town this summer for my wedding and we spent the night before playing SF2. Winner stays, loser goes to the back of the line :D

I'll give a big honorable mention to TIE Fighter, though. It's a shame there's never been a better Star Wars game released. It's to be expected though, since TIE Fighter was damn near perfect.

hmm... I can't really decide on one game, since different games throughout the years have offered me different experiences -
I could never compare the beauty of Grim Fandango to the gameplay of Ikaruga, for example.
Therefore I will have to split up some of my favourite games into the following categories:

Overall game design: Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Fun Factor: Rygar and Rastan (Arcades)
Gameplay: Street Fighter III and Ikaruga
Most emotional experience: Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger
Most beautiful games: Grim Fandango and Loom
Best graphics: just kidding :P

How does it stack up against the Playstation port? I played through the PS version this summer and I enjoyed it quite a bit despite it's incredbile datedness. No, that's not a word but I used it anyways. The voice acting was terrible, and the graphics were pretty par for the course of early 3D games. I remember Xenogears looking much much better though.

Very simple:

Chrono Trigger. A more perfect game has yet to be created, though Earthbound is a very, very close second.

You know, I thought I had my answer all wrapped up:

Final Fantasy II (SNES)

Then you had to go and remind me of those two fantastic games, and that got me thinking about Xenogears and Secret of Mana... but I think I might have to stick with FF2. Not only is it a fantastic game with a fantastic story, but it was the game that got me started and led me to even be debating these other titles behind it.

Man, SNES was certainly the golden age of the RPG.

I try to keep a top 10 list in my head and that includes keeping it in rough order. #1 is "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past," although I've been wondering lately if perhaps I should elevate Super Mario World up from #4 (Civilization and Tetris are 2&3).

I've been playing SMW (and SM3) on my GBA a lot lately and there's just *something* about these platformers that are so compelling I can keep playing them again and again. The best part is that I've never played SMW2 so I've got some "new" platforming goodness to look forward to on my GBA.

(After Minish Cap comes out that is :) )

Defender's my fave game of all time, followed by Galaga.

Don't get me wrong. I loves retro, classic, neoclassic, shmups, abstracts, etc.

Grand Theft Auto III. Not as pretty or as big as VC or SA, but the missions are the best and it doesn't seem as cartoony as the other games (especially VC).

I couldn't even begin to. Maybe if it was favorite by system, then by genre... and even then it would be pretty hard to try to narrow it down. ^^;
Same, totally (Wow, this is up to 3 pages, in essentially 2 days? Nice!) - I try not to have favorites and when I do it's usually for crazy reasons (i.e. I'm a big fan of Crypt* Killer because it's cheesy/atmospheric/references omg castlevania!!1 all at once)

* Not Corpse, don't have a clue about that one yet

If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the arcade version of Tempest. But a Top Five is a much better system.

One thing that's nice about selecting just one game is that you automatically weed out all the 'sympathy' votes that would come with a top 5 (or 10, or 50)... I bet Katamari Damacy would garner some top 5 votes from people here but I think it's *way* too early to consider it a top 5 game (and I personally don't even like it that much).
