When Jak & Daxter first arrived on the PS2 scene, I had sold my PS2 a few months prior, and I missed out on the whole Jak & Daxter thing, not to mention all the other great PS2 exclusives.

But recently I got a PS2 again, and I definitely wanted to check out all the games for that system that I never got a chance to play.

Well, Jak & Daxter was one of the first games that I really wanted to try out. Man, what a beautiful game. I've only just begun this game, but the first thing that popped into my mind when playing it, is that this game is an instant classic, and it's going to go down as being one of the coolest original PS2 games released for the system. Especially as a early PS2 game.

This is pure platforming bliss. Reminds me of the days when I had a good 2D Mario to look forward to, and Sonic and stuff like that. Classic platform love.

Jak & Daxter is sweet!

Jak & Daxter is one of the best PS2 games I've played. I need to start Jak II one of these days, and I'll eventually get Jak 3 someday.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it an instant classic, but it's definitely a good game and an excellent platformer. I got my copy for Xmas 3 years ago after I returned another non-game gift that I had received :)

Jack and Daxter is one of the few reasons I want a PS2. The sequesls though (at least Jak II) are a little to involved and complex. they've gone the way of More Free-Roam and third person shooter... Which is my biggest problem with the Ratchet and Clank series.

The Jak series is definitly one the most graphically pleasing series to grace the PS2.

I guess I'm in the minority, but something about this game bothers me, and I think its the character design. I returned the copy I got for christmas and picked up Astroboy for the GBA. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Astroboy is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

It's a good game, but [for me anyway] I had a lot of issues with the camera on the last section of the game, so much so that I snapped the disc in anger.

J&D can get mighty frustrating near the end, but its worth it. I really liked the game, but I didn't go for 100%. I came really close though. I haven't got around to 2 or 3 YET...

I plan on getting it again and beating it, since I was litterally at the end with 99 out of 100 power cells. The only one I'm missing is the one you get after freeing the last Sage, and then it's end boss and end of the game.

I had all the power cells except one which really ticked me off. You were suppposed to get it as you came out of a level and were put on the roof, and I jumped off the roof before seeing it and couldn't get back to it. That's as complete as I got (which still gave me the 'good' ending) and I never found it frustrating at all.

I have actually never played Jak and Daxter before, but I have watched my mom play it a million times. It is one of her all time favorite games. She has beat the 1st and 2nd ones, and it playing Jak 3 right now (christmas present). She thought that Jak 2 was a very difficult game (compared to the 1st), and was almost too difficult in some spots. She said that Jak 3 has been a much smoother and not so impossible game though.

My dad is also obsessed with the Rachet and Clank series. Mainly because of all the weapons, and how you have to save up all your money to get them.

If you are into those 2 series, you might also like :

TY series
Tak series
Treasure Planet
Sprinx
Rayman 3

Rayman 3

Coincidentally, all of those games bother me as well. Again, I think its the character design, or maybe just the artwork in general...the colors specifically.

THE best thing about the first Jak N Daxter is that it isn't OVERLY difficult to get 100% completion. The game is do-able....the end boss is defeatable without alot of stress.

I like a game that allows you a sporting chance to defeat the end boss, considering the fact that you made it all of the way to get to him.

This game was as perrfect as perfect gets these days. We're given SO many shitty games that Jak was refreshing in every way.

So you're saying Jak 2 and Jak 3 are alot harder to get 100% completion for?

I'm not sure about Jak 3 (because my mom hasn't finished it yet), but I do know that Jak 2 is much more difficult to get 100% in (compared to Jak 1). The developers must have realized that they made Jak 2 much too hard, so they brought the level of difficulty down for the 3rd game. Good idea, considering many of the people who play this series are kids (or 49 year old women in my moms case LOL )

Jak 1 was great and easy to 100%
Jak 2 was great and hard to 100%, things like shooting range and time trials up the difficulty. this is now more of a mix of Jak 1 and the GTA series
Jak 3 is more greatness like 2 and is hard to 100% it has several challenges that the average gamer will never beat just like 2 did

Played 1 and 2 100% currently playing 3 at around 70%

Ty is ok
Tak is pure ass and is directed at 5 year olds, the worst game I think I have ever played mainly due to the way the game addresses the player
Sphinx rules
Rayman rules
Havent played Treasure Planet
All 3 Ratchet games are amazing must owns

Yeah, the Ratchet & Clank games are great :)

I only got into Jak 1 in November. I enjoyed the fuck out of it. It is totally beautiful, and with almost no loading at all, it is even cooler. It took the best of Crash and made it better. And I don't care what anyone says, Daxter is actually pretty funny sometimes.

But then I got Jak II. I am still stuck. They made it too hard IMHO. Those stupid "Go and collect things while avoiding all the gun fire" missions are fucking bloody hell.

I'd LIKE to get Jak III one day, but I refuse to until I finish Jak II and at this point, it doesn't look like it'll happen too soon.

Hell, aside from Katamari, the Jak trilogy is the one reason I bought myself a PS2.

I rented this game and beat it on the Christmas break a few years ago, and I agree it's one of the best PS2 games. I can't really find myself trying out Jak II/III with their GTA style gameplay. :/

Only thing in the whole game I missed was about 4 orbs in the swamp level. :(

So you guys use FAQs to find the missing Orbs or what?

Jasoco
01-04-2005, 11:49 PM
I did. I always try as hard I can to avoid FAQ's, but keep them handy for when I do get utterly stuck.

Basically, I have 100% now.

I don't mind the GTA feel on Jak II and III, actually, but hell, I hate when they make it so hard. At least they dropped lives. Eventually I'll get back to it and try to beat it. Then I'll get III. I hear it's a LOT bigger. And the physics of the vehicles are really good. I can't wait, but I can. I'll wait for it to hit GH status like I did the other two.

I do agree that the last level was frustratingly hard and took a lot of trial and error to get through. I can see why slip81 broke a disc in half. It took me a couple days to get past the level.

I got 100% and it wasn't too hard to get there. And I found everything in the game without the use of a FAQ.

Yeah, I got 100% without a FAQ. I didn't think the game was that hard really - but I loved every second of it.
