I am gunna go with Def Jam Fight for NY. The story mode was just so awsome, and so many people were unloackable. The interactice areas was definatly a big plus to.

Sam Sho Special for me. Gorgeous visuals and art, excellent character balance, and an outright fun experience for anyone playing makes it not only my pick for the year, but one of the best fighting games I've ever played.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

With the return of 3rd Strike, I felt Capcom really did care what their fans liked. On top of Hyper SF2, giving us another chance of what we know so well, yet with a twist of challenge.

Runner up imho, MK Deception. For quite some time, I felt like the series was wearing thin. Yet, part 6 offered so much, brought back many favorites from the series, much replay value. Improved combo system, extra goodies. It was almost like MK2 in 3D so to speak.

Shame that more people won't be able to play Sam Sho Special.

SF Anniversary was a junker. It offered almost nothing new.

And SSVS didn't offer much new either.

It offered far superior gameplay to 5, and the best damn in game artwork I've ever seen :P

And to be fair, online play is only in the xbox version, which *technically* isn't here yet.

Capcom Fighting evolution. I really enjoyed it and its weird selection of characters.

As much as I like Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter, I feel that Guilty Gear deserves to win: It's original, it's developers dared to present their work through high-resolution graphics, and the game is hella fun.

I'll pick MK: Deception, as I was hella addicted to it when it first came out. The novelty wore off after a couple weeks or so, but since I really only have SNK vs. Capcom to make on a basis of comparison, I'll stick with MK.

SSVS, nothing else on that list compares, especially not the SF collection.

not too many good fighters that came out this year
title of the SF collection put me off. Where's SF1 or the Alpha games?
CFE was just more of the same. No 'Evolution' whatsoever
DoA Ultimate is just pt2 with an additional counter direction

never played any of the others

i had to go with sfac just because i am a huge street fighter fan to the core, and then this coming out, damn. don't get me wrong i still have to buy it, but anything that is good enough to get special controllers for it much rock.

I threw SVC a bone.

Why? Because it made me re-think how I play a fighting game.

If you sit down to that game and go into autopilot mode, expecting the usual SFstyle gameplay....you're gonna be one sad puppy. You have to actually work to chain any semblance of a combo together, if you get a 10+ combo, damnit you earned it!

That games' fighting engine is so whacked (some would say broke ;) ) that you have to regroup and almost forget what you know to even play it.

So in short SVC made me really have to think and re-learn moreso than any of the others on the list I've played....thats not to say that its a BETTER game, but for my criteria, it was challenging in many ways, rather than more of the same :D

Dead or Alive Ultimate. Great gameplay, tons of costumes, beautiful graphics,
especially the women. :-P

Online play is great if you play online. I don't. I have SFIII on the DC, and Street Fighter Collection II which has the same basic premise of Anniversary. Yep, great gameplay, classic fighters, no use to me.

I liked Chaos (people are way too critical considering what fighters we get these days), but it has nothing on SSVS.

I actually echo every single word of this, which is why I also voted for SSVS.

If you don't play fighters online and have the capabilities to, your loss, that's all I can say.

I have the capabilties but have no interest. I have friends that I play with. What's the need? I have no reason to play against total strangers.

To play against top notch competition. Which in turn furthers your game and teaches you new tricks and tactics. It doesn't beat playing against your buddies, but it sure is a nice option to have.

I agree with this quite a bit, but that's why I voted for GGX2#Reload. I'm waiting for the SFAC to come out over here officially before I vote for it.
