With the amount of time I've put in playing UT2k4 online, I'll have to vote for it out of the games listed. The mods that are already available for it are also extremely awesome (I'm big into Checkmate at the moment).

For me, UT2k4 perfected the UT series. I was a gigantic fan of the original UT, though UT2k3 was a disappointment. Having everything click when UT2k4 was released was really awesome. Besides that, releasing the game on a DVD gets bonus points from me, because I'm really sick of multi-CD releases when I've had a DVD-ROM for 5 years now.

The graphics and gameplay combine to make UT2k4 my favorite listed here, though I am in agreement that Rome: Total War should perhaps have a listing.

Half-Life 2 > DOOM III, and I've played both extensively. DOOM III isn't shoddy, but neither is it very engrossing or hold much repeat play value (as opposed to the original 2.5D DOOMs)

I picked DOOM III because it's the only PC game I would actually want to play if I had a PC.

You wouldn't happen to have experience with the game (or, rather relevantly, Half-Life 2)? So let me guess...vote ruled by fanboyism?

But DOOM actually means something to me. If I had a PC, I wouldn't even tough HL, but would buy DOOM in a second. Is that so wrong? I don't think so. It's the same reason people don't like Halo 2, "It's just another FPS". To me, HL2 is just another FPS. DOOM III is just another FPS. But DOOM is one I would actually enjoy. And that's all I have to say about that.

Sid Meier's Pirates! - an awesome update to my favorite game of all time that stays faithful to everything I loved about the original.

I guess there was a nominating thread that I missed. I have not played any of these games, and very few PC games over the past year. I would vote for Rome: Total War based on the demo I played but I guess thats not an option.

the ut series is like the tony hawk series, it only gets better as the sequels come out. they find a way for both franchises to stay fresh every time a sequek is released. yeah, i know these are not done by the same people, but i was just showing that there are some series that will be around for a long time because they are the ones that are aging to perfection

Pirates is great but Unreal Tournament 2004 really hit me in the gut. I was engaged in some battles that I still remember months later - hell there's some I may never forget. Unreal indeed!

Dodged my question. I think you haven't played the game and it's an insult to have my vote - I've played both games and carefully considered which of them I thought best - countered by one apparently based on nothing but preconcieved notions. I have restricted myself from voting in polls where I have no reason to enter at all, and I wonder why it's too much to ask for others to do the same?

I didn't dodge the question. Truth is, I wouldn't touch HL2 if it were the greatest FPS on the planet. I'm not into the series, so screw it. DOOM on the other hand is like a brother to me... get my drift? Yes, that is how I think, and go ahead and say I'm shallow or whatever. Bah. Humbug. Same reason I never liked Quake. I didn't like Quake, even though it was far superior to DOOM in every way. It still was blah to me. Half-Life 2, Quake, same thing. Superior engine and graphics don't mean I'm gonna play it just because. And yes, I did play Quake all the way through back then. It was still stupid compared to DOOM. Perhaps I'm ranting or raving or whatever, I'm hungry and my opinion stands. Meh to Half-Life 2. Let the programmers come to my house for all I care. I've seen it, I don't care for it.

This would be a good time to cut your losses, Jasoco. You're making less sense as you go.

As much as I play Pirates! it's repetitive and there's not much new gameplay or stuff added in 10+ years! I used to play Pirates! for my Commodore 64.

My vote again would be for Call of Duty: United Offensive.
