What is the hardest game out there? I remember Ghost n' Goblins for NES. I never made it to level 3 hehe. I also read that Super Ghouls n' Ghosts for SNES is one of the hardest game of all time, atleast for SNES. I played it alittle and its pretty hard. Anyone disagree? :)
Anyways.. what is the hardest/most difficult game you have played?

Pretty sure this one's been done before, but the classic choice is always Atari 7800 Impossible Mission, which lives upto the name by being impossible to finish.
Before I clicked this topic, I was thinking of Ghost n Goblins for NES...
Itīs so hard to beat - I never made it past the third boss.
In the Saturn version (Capcom Generations) I made it much further (to the second last end boss).

Holy Diver for the Famicom. Imo, much harder (and more fun) than any of the G&G series. Very English-friendly...I don't recall there being any Japanese. I think there's 8 or 9 levels. I made it to level 5, I believe after many hours.
This game is a total bitch. It's very fun and very challenging, but I really don't see how any human being could ever beat this game. Even with save states it is extremely difficult.
One hell of a game though!

I know it's an obvious choice, but I'll mention Battletoads (NES). I now reach the last few levels, but it took me years to get by the third stage (which I can now beat in one try).

Not to be confused with the album by Dio :)
Yeah, that game's wicked hard, and I've never gotten through it.

The most difficult game I've ever played is Ghosts 'N Goblins. Like you, I've never made it to the third level.

Its got to be turtles on the NES everytime. Its rediculously hard. Enemys reapearing limited continues and a massive game. This comes up every time this topic is brought up.

"Im sure someone said a Street Fighter Platformer for NES was a damn hard one a while back! "
I'm pretty sure you are talking about Streetfighter 2010. I think the game is hard as hell, but other people have told me that after the 1st level (which is damn near impossible) that it gets much easier, and is actually a very fun game.
While not the hardest game ever, I got a Super Mario Bros 2 Japan version cartridge yesterday in the mail, and it is VERY VERY hard!!! I can get through alot of the game, but some of the later castles are horrible!

Isnt Super Mario Bros 2 japanese release the same as europe and usa version? I cant remember any castles in smb2, only in smb 1 and 3.

SMB2 Japanese is different. SMB U.S.A. is the same as the U.S./Euro version, and is Doki Doki panic (FDS game) with different graphics, mostly.

Yeah , Super Mario Bros 2 Japanese version looks exactly like Super Mario Bros 1. The graphics are nearly identical, but the gameplay in insane! It was never released in the U.S because it was though to be "too hard" for American gamers.
Another really hard game is Ninja Gaiden. I did beat this one, but it took me forever! Level 6-2 is truely hell, and you have to have some seroius patience, or there are going to be some broken controllers afterwards. LOL

The Ninja Gaiden games are hard at first, but after a few tries they aren't so bad. As part of a bet, I once beat Ninja Gaiden 1 through 3 in a span of 5 hours. I'm sure I could bring this number down to at least 2.5 hours. My pick for hardest game is still up in the air...right now I'd say its Contra Hard Corps, but I'm sure there is a harder game but I can't think of it.
Well.......Pro Race Driver by Codemasters isn't exactly a walk in the park.
Midnight Club 2 is just plain annoying.

Going to agree with most people here and say:
Ghosts n' Goblins
Super Ghosts n' Goblins
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 3
and add
Adventure Island 1
Blaster Master
I love both those games but I've never been able to come remotely close to finishing them.

I'd just like to bring to your attention that a game by this name does not exist. At least no licensed game for a home console.

I think that SMB II (japan) has got to be the hardest game ever.
I have never even gotten close to the last world.
I only can only beat it on the SNES as "the lost levels." Cause it allows you too save.

GNG 1 is hard but not really extreme, just takes patience
Super GnG was really medium in difficulty, no where near hard
Now Battletoads is a hard game

I can beat Battletoads without continuing, and can also finish Battlemaniacs for the SNES too. Definately not the hardest.
Going to agree with most people here and say:

Super Ghosts n' Goblins
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 3

Adventure Island 1
Blaster Master
Ghosts n' Goblins is a maybe, but I'll say Cobra Triangle, Bayou Billy, Silver Surfer, Swampthing, Shatterhand and at least Double Dragon III are much harder but I know people who have finished them too. I once thought that Spelunker was impossible but I proved myself wrong by finishing it all the way through.
BTW: has anyone finished Kendo Rage for the SNES before? I sure as heck can't, and I will mention NES Rolling Thunder too that game is truly impossible.

I dunno about anyone else, but I've had a bitch of a time with Gradius (NES) for several years. Of course, I'm obsessed with killing EVERYTHING and managed to bread 500,000 points by the 4rd (or was it 5th...god I wish the game told you that :P) level once...
