Feedback forum, read up on the people first and then decide if they're trustworthy.

frankly I've been ripped off more times on eBay (5) than I have on any of the three forums I buy/sell on (0)

this forum is very good with sales...

i have bought from 10+ people with not 1 problem

just look at who you are buying from first....if they havent posted a lot and have no feedback or references, then stay away....if they appear to be a good seller on this forum, then they probably are

I split this from the Gamecube FS thread, as it had no place there. Hundreds if not thousands of dollars trade hands here every week, and except for the occasional bad apple, things run pretty ding-dang smoothly.

I have done a few trades here, and everything has gone perfectly. Just make sure the person posts alot, and has good feedback from others here, and everything should go smoothly.

Looks like jajaja got pwntpwntpwnt.

Seriously, trades and deals are thrown around here all the time with very few tales of woe. The first time someone gets screwed around here, the siren is sounded and the "screwer" is usually beaten soundly and tossed out the door. As long as you're not throwing $1,000 for a "OMG RAER GAME CART FOR NITEEDOO GAM<EBOX!!!!ONE" towards someone with 3 posts to his name, you should be fine. 8-) Most everyone ehere is happy to recommend folks and warn you who to stay away from.

Dozens of DP deals - not a single prob.
Ebay - been ripped off twice and had my money taken twice with no "recourse" either.

You take your chances regardless of where you trade or buy. I'd rather buy from people I know rather than eBay vendors who may or may not be NARUed the second my check clears their account.

I see some people here got angry or something when i said this.. dont know why, but ok.. strange
Anyways.. Im just asking if there is any protection when you trade on this forum.
Like.. if i buy something here, and use Paypal to pay with, and i never recive anything, am i screwed then or is there some kind of protection?

Like.. if i buy something here, and use Paypal to pay with, and i never recive anything, am i screwed then or is there some kind of protection? If you pay with Paypal, isn't that enough? Claim you got ripped off and they start investigating. Doesn't need to be an eBay transaction. Hell, pay with a Credit Card and double your safety. Or use a Money Order and keep your receipt. No product? Start tracing the MO and see where it leads. Or pay with a check and sic your bank on them if they rip you off. Seriously, how do you deal with this kind of thing outside of eBay?

I think what's got everyone irked is that you kinda suggested that folks here couldn't be trusted. ("I would never buy from a forum" and suggesting fraud may occur.) That may not have been your intent, but that's what I think has everyone on your case. Most everyone here has only good things to say about trading with other members. I suggest listening to them rather than getting defensive at this point.

Paypal actually only provides protection within an extremely limited spectrum. They'll only cover you IF the item didn't arrive (not if it was damaged), IF you and the seller were both verified, IF IF IF. They're VERY bad about it and screw people all the time. You rarely get your money back from them. Out of three times I've had to file for it, I've gotten my money back exactly ONCE.

There's no CASH protection but scammers get roundly decimated on these boards. People tend to speak out quite vocally when they get burned here, and it even gets passed on amongst other forums. Scam someone here and you'll probably never be able to trade on most major gaming forums again (at least anytime soon). We tend to ask a lot of questions here, and tend to make sure of people first, especially those with no trading reps, and normally the new person has to send first, buying or selling.

The feedback forum works. We've actually got a LOT more trades than it shows, but we've just instituted it fairly recently, so everyone (myself included) is slowly adding to the people they've dealt with. I've probably done over 300 trades on here (maybe MANY more) but I currently have around 20 feedbacks in the forums. I've never been burned on a package here either. Not ONCE.

As for eBay, there's no protection there either. Negative feedbacks don't stop scammers. There are 1000 times more scammers on eBay than here because everyone uses eBay, good, bad, and ugly. But only DPers use this board mostly, and in general, we're a pretty good lot (don't ask my wife about that tho....).

And i said "A forum", not "THIS forum". I was talking generaly. Understood, but you said it while in THIS Forum. You can understand why folks thought you were specifically mentioning the very Forum you were posting in.

As i said, I did NOT make this topic! It was a post in another topic and a MOD (flack i think) moved it here for some reason.. This thread/post was originally made in someone else's Buying/Selling thread, so a Mod - Flack, probably - split this off before the discussion derailed the earlier, initial thread. It's kind of like reading a thread on the Nintendo Gamecube, when someone posts "Who here likes pie?" We'll split off the derailing comment before posts of "raspberry, coconut creme, apple ala mode" fills up the thread.

So please delete this topic because i didnt make it and flack made me look like a idiot :( Actually, you don't look like an idiot. Just someone who didn't know any better and who got a bit o' schoolin' from the friendly folks. We don't delete stuff around here unless it's particularly nasty/unwarrented. My guess is that this thread will die on it's own if left alone at this point.

I don't understand the negativity here. jajaja is wrong, but if that's how he feels and doesn't want to trade/buy on a forum, that's his ow business. By doing so jajaja you are missing out on a lot of potentia deals. Most of the time things on the boards here go for well under ebay market values, and when trading a lot of people are very generous. A little research is all it takes. Odds are someone who has bee a member for over a yera and has hundreds of messages isn't someone stopping by for a quick buck.

Aside from the feedback system, most of us know each other somewhat well and we are a pretty tightly knit community. None of us would really want to harm our reputation with each other. Word gets round FAST 'round these parts.

I've never been ripped off by a forum member. I don't want to say posts count, but the more posts someone has, the more you see into them and what kind of person they are, in an internetty, somewhat impersonal kind of way, but still. Plus, you get a much better picture of someone's credibility. If they hung around here that long, then they must not want to not be able to come back and face the shame of everyone knowing they screwed one of us over.

You didn't make this topic; instead, you posted the phrase "I would never buy something at a forum." in someone's SELLING thread, which is pretty damned rude if you ask me. The reason it was removed from that thread is because it had nothing to do with that guy's sale. I didn't make you look like an idiot, you kinda did that on your own. I realize you are new to Digital Press, so here is some friendly advice. We have a pretty thorough system of tracking people's feedback and trades. If you would never buy something at a forum, that's your business; however, the hundreds of people who post in this forum DO buy and sell things in here everyday. If you don't wish to, more power to you (more deals for me!), but the bottom line is, don't shit in people's "for sale" threads.

I buy more from forums then I ever do at ebay. Set prices, you know what your getting, and as long as you do your homework you have no problems. If you don't want to hey thats your perrogitave (as it is for a few others) but I have gotten deals here i never could've got anywhere else. For example-

I bought a selaed Onimusha PS2 game, 2 Nes games, and 5 PSX games for 17 dollars shipped. You ain't gettin that on ebay.

In fact I have gotten breaks on shipping since I am a member, you won't find that on bend you over for shipping ebay.

Not bashing you, just saying that you are missing out, as there may be a time when you might want to sell something and you won't have anyone to vouch for you. Ebay is nice, but its not the be all end all when it comes to making money selling.

seems folks on the forums(at least this one) are going to be more condition conscious and not ship a NIB game in a bubble mailer, or ship a HEARTBEAT PERSONAL TRAINER system in its original box(with the edges taped for security!), or a sega channel with the serial number scribbled out with marker...etc.

these people know what they have and how to treat it. you wont get that on ebay...

as outlined by my experiences above....

Screwed on Ebay - 3

Screwed on DP - 0

DPer's are also more willing to compromise on trades/sales and even go out of their way when real life interrupts things. If I'm looking for something I much rather work with the good people here than anywhere else. :)

I agree with above. More likely to get screwed on eBay than here.

Then again, if it looks to good to be true ANYWHERE, it probably is, DP forums no exception.

And always look both ways before crossing the road. Develop some relationships with the frequent posters and then worry not.

skoldpadda
01-04-2005, 11:09 PM
never been screwed on DP... only once (and minimally) on ebay. Still, I'd rather deal with the folks on here any day. More of a community with people who care about each other rather than a simple market.

In fact, I always try to sell goods on here before I go to ebay... I'd happily sell for less to a DP member than sell it on ebay for more. Several people on here can attest to that. I'd also pay a bit more on here to help other people out.

Moreover, you will never find such things as the "12 days of xmas" contest or secret santa on ebay... this place is much more fun and more enjoyable to participate in. The buying and selling is just a small part of the fun community. :)

Hmmm

Even though I have a 380+ rating on ebay I prefer to sell in a forum like this because it's a community. So it's all about more than just how much you can get for something.

Paypal has good buyer protection when you use a credit card. Check the rating on the seller and make sure they have a premier or business account. Be aware of sellers with only a personal account that say they don't accept credit cards.
