OK I bid on this after having a few drinks and ended up winning the auction. I am now second guessing myself (whoops, too late).

I am not really sure if I paid too much. I didn't originally notice, but it doesn't seem to come with a system card.

Any thoughts?

if its something that you don't really want then any amount is too much. If you wanted to get into tg-16 collecting maybe a little high but i've noticed that prices for tg-16 stuff has been rising lately mainly because finding this stuff in the wild is very hard. I think you will enjoy it and that case looks nice. you got at least one good game there so I think you'll have some fun.

as far as drinking and ebaying I've been there and done that so now i just use one of those sniping sites and put my bid in and forget about it.

well, I already have a TG16 and a Core Grafx, but I have always wanted a TG16 CD system. I am just not sure what they are worth and now it looks like I will have to find a system card to play any CD games on it.

If it doesn't come with the card the request a partial refund to purchase one from tgzone(?). According to the description it must have one as the system has been tested and it works, I don't know how you can say the CD works without having loaded a game!

Actually, I think its a pretty good deal, even without the system card (which is quite common to find for about $10 on ebay, its the super system card that plays super cds which is hard to find and goes for $75 to $100) and it appears to be missing the stereo a/v cables that connect to the back of the cd player, but you can get those at radio shack, best buy, etc.

On the up side you are getting an extra controller, turbo tap, 3 extra games (who plays keith courage anyways?) and the cd case. Aero Blasters is a pretty good SHMUP.

The main thing to be concerned with is whether the cd player actually works. Now he says the "system" has been tested and it works. whether this means the cd player, I don't know. If he doesn't have the system card, he can't play any games using the cd player. However, he could've tested it using an audio cd. The way he words it ("Has been tested and works" - what has been tested?) makes me wonder if he is parsing words. I'd email him to see if he has the system card and if he has actually tested the cd player. If he didn't test the player, I wouldn't pay for the item. He may be trying to pull a fast one. Odds are though he may have just forgot to include the system card in the picture.

The other thing you have to be concerned with is the power supply for the cd player. It is different from the TG16 power supply, and is nearly impossible to replace if it doesn't work. It is propietary. Make sure you connect the right power supply to the unit when you receive it.

Where can you find the cd player for $50??? I'll buy an extra one for a friend of mine. They typically go for around $100 on ebay. And that has been pretty steady for the last 2 years.

well when I was looking for one (talking just the CD player no extras) about 6-7 months ago I saw several ending in the $50-$60 range. I'll note that most of them said untested because they didn't have the tg-16 system.

well, in case anyone is interested, I emailed the guy and got this reply...

"Hi, you maybe right. I hooked the whole thing up and the hu cards work just fine. The cd had power but the picture comes up a blank tan color, the cd spins and there is a voice that is heard and it says that this cd is for a turbo grafx. I never knew much about these turbo grafx games, so I thought I was doing something wrong in hooking it up.
Thanks"

In all fairness, he said I can back out of the deal if I choose. I appears he is not a gamer and basically came across this system. he sold off most of the games separately judging from his prior auctions. it looks like he mainly sells flea market stuff. But he did list the system in working order which is kinda lame.

It may just be that he does not have the system card and that is why the CD won't play games. Or it may in fact be busted.

I offered him $50 plus shipping to buy it AS IS.

Thanks for all the advice !!

yea you sometimes meet those naive(?) sellers. :p

When I bought complete PC Engine suitcase setup from a seller in UK for around 30 GBP he not only sent the whole set up but a spare CoreGrafx and SuperGrafx and its CD-ROM adaptor! He thought since he has these extra stuff he might as well throw them in thinking they are useless... o_O;

sweetest deal I've ever had on eBay...

Pretty good deal for that stuff. A bit below the cost I would expect, but without the system card that makes it about an average deal.

I've noticed a few things about Turbo goods on eBay these days.

1. The price of systems seems to be going up a bit
2. Very few collection sales. Meaning, some guy sells his TG16 and 16 games (not huge collections or dealer resale)
3. Most auctions are for PCE stuff, not US stuff right now.

Makes me really consider putting up all the extra Turbo goods I have at the moment.

Wow, yeah you definitely hooked me up and I appreciate it!

So, that guy is going to sell me the TG16 CD auction for $50. Now I need a system card to see if it actually works. Do you have any extras for sale? Even the basic one (ver 2.0?) would be fine.

if you are not anal about the box I picked up Duo-RX minus box as it was damaged for 6900 yen last month off YJ...
it should be sent to me soon as my relative is back from holiday...
even with the shipping it'll only cost me around $80+...

and I also picked up boxed PC Engine Duo off eBay for $47 plus shipping early last year and sold for $70 late last year...
man the going rate nowadays is simply amazing... o_O;

cheers

What is the difference between the Duo-R or Duo-RX and the PC-Engine Duo, other than the color and design?

Duo at $82.50, no bids

Stargate: You should be able to find a CD System Card 2.0 for about $10-$15 on ebay. That is the one that came with the system. It's the System 3.0 (Super CD) that was sold separately and goes for about $75-$100. For that much money, you might as well just play your Super CD games on your Duo-R. There is no regional lockout for CDs you can play US and Jap games on it. It's only the HuCards that are not compatible.

Duo is the first all-in-one design and was also released in US as Turbo Duo.
Japan also got Duo-R and Duo-RX later on in white shell instead of black. People tend to favour Duo-R/RX coz it doesn't suffer from audio issue and being newer model their CD-ROM is in btter shape... Duo-RX is basically Duo-R with different pad bundle...
there was few changes rom Duo to Duo-R but can't remember what it was atm... o_O
