here's the deal. One of my good friends bought a gold controller from Nintendo power. On the top, where it usually has the nintendo logo, it has the Nintendo power logo in very beautiful shiny metal gold letters. Has anyone ever seen one of these? I'm thinking of giving my friend an offer on it, as the control stick is broken. I'm wondering how rare these things are.
These controllers were made to celebrate Nintendo Power's 100th issue. They were offered for a very short time and I believe only a limited number were made.

Um. I've got Volume 101 sitting in my lap and there's nothing at all about a gold NP controller. On the inside of the back cover there's the customary list of back issues, and the rest of said page has "NP 100 Gear (Get It Before It's Gone!!! [sic])
I see a gold GB Pocket with the NP 100 logo, a T-Shirt, a watch, a coin set (LOL), and...well, that's it.
Amusing note: In this issue a reader has written in to ask what happened to Nintendo's plan to make the bindings of various issues form a mosaic. Apparently, they wanted to make it so the bindings together would form Mario. Well, that didn't work out as planned, as Volume 99's binding is a duplicate of Volume 97's, reportedly giving Mario three eyes.

I would try to get it.
Im no expert on the matter but wouldn't you be able to switch the outter plastic to a working set of inner "guts" of another controller?
I would also like to see pics.

Thats what I've been hoping, yes. I wonder what I would need to take the casing off?

My n64 controllers all have standard screws in. No need for a gamebit. In my experiance everything gold is worth money game wise. lol
Yep, seen it.....and yep, the guts are easy to swap. The buttons and stuff have tabs that only go in one way so you CAN'T screw it up.

Ed,
That's because there wasn't a picture of it in vol 101 at all, or in vol. 100 for that matter
NP 100 came in plastic and had a one of those catalog booklets that you could order stuff from. This catalog book was dated Fall of 1997 (when NP 100 was released). Inside the catalog you could purchase the Gold Nintendo Power 100 Controller for $30 or $46 CAN.
The catalog also displays the coin set, the gameboy and the t-shirt among other items not related to NP 100. However, the catalog does not offer the NP 100 watch for sale (but it is shown on the cover, odd methinks). The watch sold in this catalog wasn't the special one for the 100th issue, it was in fact just a very cool 007 goldeneye watch that cost just as much as the gold controller.
Anyway, here is a picture i scanned from the catalog. Hope it helps out.

ENEMYZERO: any controller that looks somewhat interesting is worth $5. you can always sell it and probabaly get at least $3 for it.
especially 'commemorative' controllers.

Good deal. (This is why I was careful not to say "omg wrong!" - I figured it would've been in Volume 100, I didn't even KNOW about the catalog.)
<- NP I.Q. +1 LOL

Not sure. Toys R us is the only retailer that sold gold N64s and gold N64 controllers. However this NP one is different from the ones for sale.
Anyways, does anyone know what these are worth? My friend agreed to sell his, I just need a number to offer him.

Well I ended up getting the controller and Castlevania 4 for my friend in exchange for a 6 dollar game when we were both at EB. He's a cool guy :) . If anyone wants a picture just ask.

Hi, I do have the Nintendo Power 100 gold controller, and I never used it since day one. I was going to bring my game collection to the Digital Press store I wonder how much this controller is worth? I seen it on ebay for 125 - $200. I also have the rare zelda collectors edition for gamecube sealed and I seen it go for 150-200$ on ebay. I will come to the store next weekend, as I have lots of NES/SNES games boxes and manuals.
