View Full Version : PSX-to-USB converter problem under Mac OSX

I just got the Boom brand converter from Sylentwulf's website (thanks!). However, even though it's technically Mac-compatible, I can't get my PS2 controller to be recognized by MacMAME (I just upgraded MacMAME to the latest version, which is 0.87b).

I already have the shareware USB Overdrive, and it recognizes it just fine, even though configuring the controller through it doesn't change a thing with MacMAME.

Does anyone have advice on how to get the adaptor to work properly under OSX? I currently run Jaguar.

Thanks in advance, everyone!!!

I'm using the Smart Joy PS to USB converter on OSX and found that it worked quite alright under MacMamev0.77u2a. Occasionally it would 'forget' the joystick calibration settings however.
But when I upgraded to MacMamev0.87b (and 0.88u4b1) I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried.

I remember reading somewhere that the programmer responsible for MacMame was in the process of completely rewriting the code relating to the joystick controls. Apparently it's quite an arduous task with all the various convertors, pads and joysticks around not adhering to any industry standard.

My suggestion is to try an older version of MacMame for the time being.

Hope this helps...

(edited out the nasty arrow.. whoops.. :) )

Thanks for the info (BTW, try not to make the arrow in your post, that's why this page is all screwed up -- it's one of the shortcomings of PHPbb).

I have both MacMAME 0.67 and 0.87 installed and neither recognized the adaptor. I'll give it a try with 0.77 and see if my luck's better.

It's in times like that that I really miss InputSprockets.

Here's finally what I did (after not having too much success with 0.77):

I deleted USB Overdrive (which I had installed for something else, but it may have interfered with MacMAME). Then, I downloaded the latest MacMAME beta (0.88), which has a better joystick management than previous versions (unfortunately, the passage of OS 9 to OS X meant the loss of InputSprockets).

And guess what? My converter now works just fine. I just played a bit of MacMAME with my PS2 controller and it's great. The Dual Shock controller's analog button has to be on and dual-joystick controls is supported (which was the main reason I bought the converter in the first place). :D

MacMAME 0.88 beta file can be downloaded at http://www.macmame.org/files/MacMAME-0.88u4b1.dmg

@Balusilustalu: You said that you didn't get your joystick config to work under MacMAME 88 beta. As I wrote above, right now the adjustment is being done in the in-game tab menu.
