I just have to ask about this; A friend of mine (who moved here from Germany 4 years ago) brought over her Game Boy and games because she could still play them (gave all her NES games to friends before she left...they're kinda useless on an NTSC system ^_^) and I just want to know if this game is rare/in demand. Did it get a U.S. release?

There are two smurf games for older Gameboys.
For the original GB there is:
Die Schlümpfe reisen um die welt
which translates to
The Smurfs travel around the world
which can be seen here
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1944195638
and
for the GBC there is:
Die Schlümpfe im Apltraumland
The Smurfs in Nightmareland
you can see the cartridge here
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1944650199
the box looks basically the same
now, The Smurfs never had a US release on the NES I believe, so my money is on europe-only with these two as well, but I dont really know. There are certainly not rare, a few popped up on ebay right away.
Hope this helps a bit...

I'm pretty sure I saw Smurf for CGB here in USA. Yep, Smurf (B&W?) and Smurf's Nightmare (CGB). ($19.99 and $17.99 respectively if you want used copy from Gamestop) I can only find one current eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1944790931
Anyway Smurf has been released in USA but it's quite hard to find.

I have the CGB Surfs Nightmare. Its really strange--I got to a point in the game to where it appears I cannot continue! I beat a level, got the password, and was supposed to recieve a crucial item to move on with the game (I believe it was a rope?) I can't go back and get it, so I'm stuck in the "village" and can't go on! I tried this a couple times, and it sucks ass!!!! I can put in the previous password and play, but then that's it! I get to the same point and I'm stuck! GRRRRR. >:(
Its not a matter of finding the item, I don't think its in the game. Either that, or I'm really stupid and can't beat a simple crappy little kiddie platformer. I hope its not the latter. :/

She could have modified a NTSC NES to play them. Or bring her PAL NES to the US, with a power converter it will work on newer televisions that's supports both NTSC and PAL I guess.
