Boy did I love those guys work in Joe and Mac. What ever happened to the company? I'm sure it went bankrupt or something, but why? Were the majority of the games crap?
Keep in mind I'm post NES era, so I really have no knowledge on a company like this.

Yeah, they went bankrupt a couple of years ago. Their last game was for an obscure console (Wonderswan? I don't remember). 'Tis a shame, I really liked Data East's come-from-left-field approach to making video games.

"The day that happens I take a shotgun and climb a clock tower."
I'd suggest a sniper rifle as you won't hit as many targets with a shotgun at that height. ;)
btw how do you quote what people write in those boxes with their name on it?

Just a few Data East arcade classics:
the arcade games are what I remember most about Data East. Maybe they lost their attraction when arcades started to fade. Still a very underated company that put out some great games. :(

Shotgun? In a tower? That was my first thought too, glad you clarifyed that :)
To quote people in a box you just hit the quote button that's to the right side of their original post. It brings up a reply screen with their stuff automatically quoted.
And on topic, to me Data East will always be Burgertime and Karate Champ. Spent so many quarters on those that you'll always remember the title screens :)

Just a few Data East arcade classics:
Windjammers and Joe & Mac were two of my faves back when. There's one I know is being neglected, though...Magical Drop (aka Data East's Chain Reaction). Such a delicious puzzler. :-P
I hope I get a chance to try out Boogie Wings someday, as well.

Incidentally, there must be some company that bought the rights for BurgerTime... if not, Intellivision Productions Inc. should do it. That way, they could re-release Diner and even license it for an updated version (Diner/Burgertime for GBA, anyone?).

This is the plan I believe. The Intellivision guys have been trying to purchase the licenses to the games they developed in order to release them on the collections discs to bring in funding so that they can work on newer, 3D versions of these games (and turn them into franchises). It's in the Keynotes recordings. (http://www.digitpress.com/cge/2k4_mp3/) <--That's a link.

Yes, I lliked Side Pockets, too. It's probably still my favorite pool game though I don't really have many of them. I suck at the trick shots, though... LOL

A tribute to Data East (http://www.nesworld.com/dataeast.htm)
It seems that they went threw the hardships of being suied because of there likenesses of another game.. Long live Data East
"Data East Coporation was founded on April 20, 1976, and was declared bankrupt by the district court of Tokyo on June 25 2003 and an announced was made to the public on 8th June 2003. This happened after the company had been in financial trouble since 1999, where they made a settlement in the district court to reorganize its finances, because of a 3.3 billion yen ($28 million) debt."

So does this mean that the Intellivision Lives kids can now release the Inty Burgertime and all the other DE stuff? Or do they now have to talk to a Japanese bank?
